About
Hi! I’m Alyssa. I’m an experienced tutor, certified proofreader, and skilled editor who loves connecting with others and helping people build their confidence with English. I work with both English language learners (ESL, EFL, ESOL, ELL, MLL) and native speakers and specialize in serving women and girls. Whether you’re learning English, need a peer to proofread a paper, or just want some help understanding a writing assignment, I’m here to help.
Since 2016, I’ve served students from a variety of backgrounds. I’ve taught writing, grammar, and spelling at the elementary, middle, and high school levels; coached college students through writing assignments; and tutored adult English language learners from Egypt and Mexico. (Fun fact: English is my native language, but I am also learning Spanish and Arabic.)
Being a student myself, I know how important it is to have a good teacher, so I strive to be that for my students. I foster a welcoming, engaging environment where you can comfortably learn and grow, and I use different approaches to present and explain concepts to deepen understanding. Because every person is unique, I tailor each session to your needs, strengthening and encouraging you to help you succeed and enjoy learning.
If you’re seeking to learn English, our lessons will equip you to use English naturally in everyday situations. You’ll learn vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar and gain real-world practice through conversation, reading, and writing. I’ll also use pictures and visual aids to make new concepts easier to understand and remember.
If you need proofreading help, I’ll work with you to spot and fix any grammar, punctuation, formatting, spelling, or word choice issues, helping your writing shine.

After getting to know the student, their current English level, and their goals, I craft lessons to help them achieve, tailoring each new lesson with targeted review, practice, interactive activities, conversation, and reading. Before each lesson, I also set goals for each activity, monitoring and recording the student's progress during the lesson to help me see where their weaknesses are and strengthen them.
Proofreading and Editing
When I proofread, I read documents and ensure it has proper punctuation, capitalization, grammar, word choice, spelling, formatting, chapter/page numbers, and American English. I also look for and correct any repeated words, missing words, and broken links. In addition, when I copy edit, I edit the document to make it clear, consistent, and concise so it is readable, enjoyable, and understandable. That means I look for and flag wordy sentences, repetitive phrases, inconsistencies/contradictions, rough transitions, etc., and provide clients with solutions.
