Need help with math, language, logic, science, or technology? I'm here for you!

Aloha, friend! My name is Lucas Jarrett, and I’m an online tutor! If I had to characterize my approach to helping people learn in simple terms, I would say that I believe education is a matter of teaching adaptability. The ability to adapt, or the capacity to change, is the fundamental skill of learning all things. We must always be prepared to adopt new ways of being. When we study life, we study the infinite, and when study the infinite, our mindsets must be similar, or else we will not see everything that we could have seen. To realize that learning is the art of changing is to begin learning everything more easily. My primary goal is to help my students see and apply this awareness when studying anything they hope to do well. I have professional experience teaching arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, logic, algorithms, philosophy, physics, biology, history, psychology, music, billiards, writing, research, literature, English, Java, Python, HTML, CSS, SQL, and more. Furthermore, I’m happy to offer insight into cognitive habits that often bring academic trouble, such as perfectionism, procrastination, arrogance, inattention, hyperactivity, and anxiety. In any case, I always strive to inspire the infinite sort of learning that enables all extraordinary knowledge. I tutor many subjects not listed here, so feel free to ask about anything. I like interesting projects sometimes! 🙂

Senior software engineer in the HFT trading industry, 10+ years tutoring

* This is my one-off rate. Rates are negotiable for long term students! * I have 7+ years of industry experience and 10+ years of tutoring experience. I am proficient in C, C++, Python, and Java, and can help with math and data science courses. Even if you have very little experience with programming, it takes most of my students 3 to 6 sessions to get comfortable enough with a programming language so they can become independent. My lessons are never generic, and caters exactly to my students' specific needs and goals. I also value the importance of understanding, rather than memorization. Professionally full-time, I am a quant developer in the high frequency trading industry, where I develop trading strategies and maintain our proprietary trading systems. So, the subjects that I teach is not just theoretical, but what I use day to day. I have been on both sides of the interview table, so I can also help with technical interview preparation, and general career guidance. In addition, I am extremely passionate about trading, and can teach it or answer any questions about it for those who are interested. Let's meet for a free 15 minute session and see how I can help you with your goals and if you like my teaching style.

Frequently asked questions

ACT help

Common ACT Math mistakes

Problems can appear at first glance deceptively easy because they only require you to know basic math topics. However, the ACT questions ask for you to apply this basic knowledge in unique ways and often require you to run through several steps to get to the correct answer. If you don’t write out these steps, you can easily end up with the wrong answer.
- The ACT doesn’t give you any formulas. However, you’ll need to use a lot of formulas to answer questions in the ACT Math section. You need to know these math formulas to answer the questions correctly.
- Functions tend to be one of the hardest concepts, if not the hardest concept, for most students.
- The ACT sometimes asks questions in strange ways, which can scare a lot of students.
- ACT Math questions are tricky not only because they ask you to apply basic skills in new ways but also because they sometimes phrase questions in weird, convoluted ways.
