About

I’m a PhD-trained computational biologist and experienced university instructor specializing in biology, bioinformatics, mathematics, statistics, data science, and scientific computing. I hold a PhD in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology, an MSc in Data Science (Big Data & AI), and a Master of Health Informatics. I currently work as a Research Consultant at the University of Toronto and previously completed postdoctoral research in molecular genetics. My research experience spans genomics, microbiology, computational biology, machine learning, and biomedical data analysis. I have extensive teaching and mentoring experience. At the University of Minnesota, I taught university courses including Introduction to Computing in Biology, Introduction to Computing for Biologists, Machine Learning, Numerical Algorithms, and Database Systems. I also co-developed and taught a MOOC course on Matrix Methods, covering linear systems, least squares, SVD, and PCA. In my research roles, I have mentored undergraduate and graduate students and supported researchers in computational methods. My teaching approach focuses on understanding rather than memorization. I break complex topics into manageable steps, explain the reasoning behind formulas and methods, and help students develop the confidence to solve problems independently. I can help with: • Biology and life sciences • Bioinformatics and computational biology • Mathematics and statistics • Data science and machine learning • Scientific programming • Research and academic skills I work with students from high school through university and graduate study. Sessions can focus on course material, exam preparation, difficult concepts, problem solving, programming, data analysis, or research projects. If you are struggling with a topic or want to strengthen your quantitative and computational skills, I can help you build a clear and practical learning plan.
