NYU Honors Grad Turned Editor, Focused on Essay Writing

Tutor Information

About

I recently graduated from NYU with a degree in English Literature, summa cum laude with high honors, graduating in the top 5% of my class, and I won my program's award for best thesis. Writing has always been my passion, in every form it takes, and I've built my career around it: I currently work as an editorial assistant at a publishing company, where I write and edit content and review writer submissions every day. My teaching experience has grown out of both formal and informal settings. In college, I co-led TEDx, working one-on-one with student speakers from their very first draft all the way through their final delivery on stage, helping them find the core of what they wanted to say and shape it into something that actually sounded like them. Outside of that, I grew up as the oldest of four siblings and have spent years informally coaching my younger siblings, cousins, and friends through their writing, from grammar basics to full college essays. Several of the students I've worked with on their college essays have gone on to get into their top-choice schools. My approach is conversational rather than clinical. I've found that the best ideas usually surface when a student is just talking through what matters to them, and my job is to help translate that conversation into writing rather than handing them a template to fill in. I focus on college essay writing specifically, working with high school juniors and seniors on personal statements and supplemental essays, but the same approach applies to any writing, grammar, or vocabulary work: ask good questions, listen closely, and help the student find and sharpen their own voice rather than mine.
