About

I am an enthusiastic infectious disease researcher, concerned by the disparity in health care across the globe. I believe everyone has the right to access better diagnostics and treatments for the improvement of global health. I am currently a PhD researcher at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine with the goal to improve diagnostics for Visceral Leishmaniasis. My research question is centred on evaluation and improvement of diagnostics for Visceral Leishmaniasis in an elimination setting. My previous experience as a researcher at The University of Oxford and Masters degree (merit) from Imperial College London have fuelled my passion for health research. Whilst studying for a Masters in Immunology, I undertook a 7 month research project titled ‘a proteomics approach in the analysis of a BCG induced trained phenotype of monocytes’, with the TB research group, National Heart and Lung Institute, St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College London. The project required me to use novel research methods to understand mechanisms by which BCG vaccination provides protection against unrelated infection such as respiratory syncytial virus and pneumonia as well as target disease Tuberculosis, for which it is shown to have varying efficacy. Aside from my research focus, growing up in the Lake District means I love all things outdoors. I’m currently training for my Mountain Leader award.
