About
I’m an experienced educator with more than 13 years in secondary education, a doctorate in Special Education, and certifications in Special Education, Elementary Education, Secondary English Language Arts, Biology, Integrated Science, and Physical Science. My background allows me to support students from elementary through high school, as well as college-level reading, writing, research, and organization.
In English and writing, I help students with reading comprehension, literary analysis, grammar, essays, extended responses, research, and academic writing. I’m comfortable teaching the structure of strong academic writing, organizing ideas, integrating sources, revising for clarity, and strengthening a student’s own voice. I earned a 4.0 in both my graduate and doctoral programs and am familiar with APA 7 and scholarly writing conventions. I’ve also supported collegiate-level peers with comprehension and written expression.
My science background includes Biology, Physical Science, Integrated Science, and Earth Science. I enjoy making difficult concepts easier to understand, and my ELA background also allows me to support lab reports, CER responses, research assignments, and evidence-based writing.
Much of my career has focused on students with learning differences, including ADHD, dyslexia, executive functioning needs, reading disabilities, and other special education needs. I have completed 55 hours of specialized literacy training for adolescent and older readers with an emphasis on dyslexia and the Science of Reading. I’m comfortable breaking complex tasks into manageable steps and adjusting instruction when something isn’t clicking.
I have experience with private tutoring and virtual homebound instruction, so one-on-one and online teaching are familiar to me. I make tutoring comfortable and productive. My goal is to meet students where they are, help them make real progress, and give them strategies they can continue using independently.
