Ontario Certified Teacher - English Conversation & Academic/Persuasive Writing

Teachable Subject: English - Language Arts Professional Focus: Emphasis on developing Socratic classroom principals, performances of understanding, project-based learning, media critique, and philosophy. My approach is largely focused on encouraging the development of students' communication skills overall. I practice ongoing assessment and enjoy conferencing with the student to provide feedback and support.

My degree in Communications held a focus on branding, political thought, and the art of persuasion through rhetoric. Throughout my time at university, I also maintained a very strong interest in psychology and in particular, language development. These interests shifted my studies towards a multi-disciplinary approach, which led me to pursue coursework in English literature, creative writing, and linguistics.

- Invited to serve as an official debate judge at the Third Annual Churchill Debate, Grade 9-12 - Judged 4 separate, formal debates for an event that included 6 competing high schools from Ottawa area *Please note* - the date range function of this website only enables me to specify month-to-month employment. The official debate took place on one day.

- Completed over 150 hours during Fall 2019 and Winter 2020 Practicum - Developed & successfully executed PBL-inspired project for Cells & Organ Systems unit (Grade 8 Science) - Implemented a weekly media module entitled ‘Media Module Wednesdays’ to support the development of critical media literacy skills and digital democracy among students (Grade 8 English-Language Arts)

- Completed over 150 hours during Practicum and Community Service Learning placements - Provided French-language support to students in Grade 1 and 2; one-to-one support for ELL learners - Created and implemented weekly Math module sessions to encourage students’ innovative thinking & problem solving, designed and executed a “Create Your Own Math Module” project (Grade 3/4 Math)

- Worked with students to assess their current skill level, collaborated with parents to design appropriate strategies for improvement - Emphasis on Socratic reasoning to enhance close-reading analysis & develop strong essay writing strategies

- Reported to Vice President Internal, acted as liaison between club executives and bank officials - Co-coordinated launch of CUSA Hub database, in collaboration with Ottawa-based tech startup CampusVibe - Successfully planned and hosted the 2016 Awards Gala for Clubs and Societies for over 200 attendees - Oversaw club bank accounts, budgets, funding, and operations of over 300 unique student clubs - Mentored club executives and mediated conflict resolution between members on a daily basis *Please note* - this is the only un-elected position within the CUSA administration.
