About

Hey, I'm Karthik! Until early 2022, I was actually aiming to become a math professor. I studied math and chemistry as a Gatton Academy student at Western Kentucky University for 11th and 12th grade as well as math and physics at Northeastern University, and it was while I was in a math M.Sc. program at the University of Western Ontario that I had a change of heart and withdrew from the program to change course. My fascination by the disciplines and passion for teaching are what drove me all these years, but when I noticed that the classroom environment was having deleterious effects on my drive, I knew I had to relegate math and physics to be something I do for fun. My best learning always occurred independently when I could "rediscover" ideas in a rudimentary fashion, so for those not being served well by the classroom, I'm here to help make independent learning more fun and accessible. I've tutored formally and informally since high school in subjects including algebra 1/2, trigonometry, physics 1/2, calculus 1/2/3, differential equations, linear algebra, real analysis, probability and statistics, group theory, quantum mechanics, combinatorics, and discrete math. Virtually all students benefit from working through problems, especially when they apply multiple concepts in tandem. Finding problems is easy since I basically hoard textbooks. I've also studied a number of graduate-level topics in math, and my strength is being able to pick up on core principles and strategies quickly, so I welcome advanced/professional learners. For those worried that my immersion in advanced topics will affect my ability to communicate effectively about more basic topics, I wish I could show the countless times that I've seen something "click" for someone or witnessed a student effortlessly work through problems that weeks prior had brought difficulty. I've tutored with Varsity Tutors for 5 years and maintain a 4.9/5 star rating.

Education

Northeastern University

2017 - 2021
Bachelor of Science Candidate, Math and Physics
My focus was on pure math and physics, and by the time I left I'd taken many graduate level math courses and was the president of the math club and vice president of the society of physics students. Although my interests were primarily in abstract algebra and topology, I love math of all disciplines and am eager to learn more on my own!

Gatton Academy of Math and Science

2015 - 2017
High School Diploma, Math and Chemistry
I was accepted into this competitive program which allowed 11th and 12th grade students to be full residential college students at Western Kentucky University. My interests were primarily in math and chemistry at this time, but notably my differential equations and real analysis professors were astounded at my performance given my age.
