English and academic writing tutor

Hi! My name is Rajini and I am an experienced English/ writing tutor. I will help you to improve your writing and literary analysis skills with my tailored lessons. In our sessions, you can expect empathetic, patient instruction and helpful strategies to enhance your reading and writing abilities. I specialize in grammar and expression and literary analysis essays, but I am open to creating custom plans based on your needs. My typical session will consist of us going through a piece of your own writing. Before we look at the writing I will ask a few questions to get an idea of the scope of the assignment and what you think needs improvement. Then we will go through the piece line by line or paragraph by paragraph to find opportunities to improve your grammar, expression, linkage of ideas and spelling/punctuation. Finally, we will wrap up by summarizing the lesson and you can apply the takeaways to future writing assignments. Please note I will not do your assignment for you as the idea is to become a better writer yourself, not just to complete the assignment and forget the process. I pride myself on being thorough and professional but also an approachable and friendly person. Our sessions are for you to ask questions so don't be shy! There's no such thing as a stupid question :^) Don't hesitate to contact me if you want to take your reading and writing skills to the next level! I look forward to setting up a lesson.

Mary M.

Wilfrid Laurier University

Experienced and understanding writing tutor

Hello! My name is Mary, and I am passionate about bringing your ideas to life by helping you improve the clarity, flow, and style of your writing! I love all things related to writing — I have written short stories almost my entire life and am working on my first science-fiction novella. Along with creative writing, I wrote numerous essays during my university years. My strong writing skills helped me succeed academically, as I graduated with high distinction. I love helping others, and bringing my writing expertise to support people in their academic and creative pursuits is a passion of mine! As a peer academic coach at my university for a mandatory course focused on philosophy from the Enlightenment to the present day, I prepared students for writing essays in university by explaining the assignment instructions, reviewing and discussing their essays, and directing them to helpful writing resources. I enjoyed passing down my knowledge to these first-year students so much that I applied to become a writing tutor at my university. As a writing tutor, I helped students from all years improve the clarity, concision, and persuasiveness of their academic papers, scholarship proposals, and cover letters. I loved both these positions so much that I have continued to tutor high school and university students in writing to help them succeed in their academic, professional, and creative lives. and have seen massive improvements in the quality of their writing while embracing their unique voice to craft persuasive essays, strong professional documents, and compelling stories. If you choose me as a tutor, I can help you master: - Academic papers/essays - APA, MLA, and Chicago style citations - Fiction and non-fiction prose - Resumés and cover letters - Scholarship proposals - Paragraph organization, sentence structure, word choice, and grammar I look forward to boosting your confidence in your writing abilities!
