Harvard and Yale grad for math and science tutoring

I majored in math and physics at Yale, and received a PhD in statistical physics at Harvard. I have also worked in scientific areas throughout my career. As such, I have very deep expertise in math and science, and I enjoy passing that on to students. I am excellent at explaining things to people of all levels and abilities. I am highly experienced having tutored full time (>2000 hours per year) for the past few years. I primarily focus on math, physics, statistics, and chemistry, to college students, high school students, and professionals. I also tutor people in competition math / science such as AMC and AIME and USPhO, as I was top 4 in the US Chemistry Olympiad, top 20 in the US Physics Olympiad, and top 50 in the US Math Olympiad.

Inspiring Math & Sciences Tutor - 10 years experience - Free Live Consultation

My excellent academic career has nurtured in me a natural talent for teaching. My experiences have taught me how to tackle one problem at a time, and I believe that using this approach—paired with my unconventional examples that force students to think outside the box—I can truly provide an excellent understanding and explanation. Experience: I have been tutoring since 2012 to fund my education expenses. I formally began tutoring in 2014 as part of my vocational training as a teacher in Ghana, funded by the University of Edinburgh. The formal training has taught me a lot about curriculum development, time management, and fusing my teaching methodology to my students’ needs. I have been tutoring in Physics, Chemistry, and Math, in person and online in 8 different countries. I have successful students from these past seven years that have not only commended my work ethic but can also stand testament to my enthusiasm. Methodology: My teaching methodology is based on two main things: skill development and adaptation. Initially, I adapt lectures to the specific needs of the student based on their knowledge and grasp of the concepts. Second, I like to develop analytical and scientific ability along with knowledge in my students, and for that, I use a combination of resources in the form of worksheets, class tasks, and past papers. Last, I believe in the strong ethic of providing feedback to the parents so they know their child’s progress.

Trouble with Algebra or Precalculus? I succeeded in math, and you will too!

I’m Devin, and I’m here to boost your math scores! Inspired by the machinations of mad scientists in science fiction films and video games, I realized early on as a kid that I wanted to study science and math. A homeschooled child, I quickly took the reins to learn on my own and attended high school online through Florida virtual school. I self-studied for the PSAT exam, through which I won a National Merit Scholarship. A number of AP exams later, I attended New College of Florida, the honors college of Florida, where I worked as a teaching assistant for Genetics and General Chemistry. After earning my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, I dove back into test prep. With a strong GRE score, I was accepted to the Computational Biology PhD program at the University of California Berkeley. There, I quickly realized that a life in the lab wasn’t for me. Instead, I decided to use my talent in the test center and the classroom to help others achieve their own academic success. As a homeschooler in college, I quickly realized how the typical classroom experience can fail students. I struggled to grasp new concepts through my instructors’ lectures. As they spoke on and on in front of the class, I would often have to give up on understanding what they were talking about. It was only after a lot of homework and one-on-one meetings with my instructors that I was able to succeed in those classes. That experience informs my approach to tutoring. I’m not going to talk at you while trudging through a presentation. We’re going to work problems together. I’m here to support and guide you, not lecture you. When you run into trouble, I’m going to pinpoint your difficulty and show you how to overcome it. We’ll keep going until you can solve these problems on your own. If you need more practice after a session, I’ll direct you to plenty of extra problems to polish your skills. You’re going to have the confidence to handle whatever a class throws at you next. Let’s get started!

UC Berkeley

Tutor in Math and Physics

I've been a tutor for 8+ years and recently graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in Physics. To begin with, I've worked through online websites, and I've also worked in person at high schools and at UC Berkeley itself. I've noticed certain patterns of learning in the students just like you, such as common traits in starting thoughts or methods used when attempting to solve a problem. Moreover, as you work through the problems, it's common to get distracted, get lost, or get burned out. Nevertheless, with good guidance, by re-contextualizing and supplementing information, you can find a way to recuperate momentum and gain invaluable problem solving and analytical skills. My experience has allowed me to learn from individual students and groups of students. In individual tutoring, I have a better grip of the thinking process of the student so that I can help them more accurately understand the problem. If you select me as your tutor, I will do my best to adapt to your learning aperture and take you to the forefront of the understanding of the problem with a personalized approach. On the other hand, I will limit my examples, analogies, and standpoints when adapting to your learning style. Both scenarios have taught me to personalize and limit my tutoring methods towards speed, accuracy, and understanding. What I can offer you, is to improve your learning curve and subsequently improve your scores by guiding you to approach, track your work, trace back mistakes, and corroborate the final answer using different tools to achieve consistency. Reach out to me so we can set up a trial lesson for up to 30 min.
