Experienced teacher and tutor with MS in Mathematics

Perspective on Education: I have devoted my entire professional career to working with students both in and out of the classroom. From tutoring my peers throughout my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics, to teaching college courses of all levels, to mentoring high school students, I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages, from various backgrounds, and from around the globe. With over 15 years of experience, I have developed an approach to teaching that is centered around developing the core of a successful student. I work to build a solid fundamental base, but more importantly I seek to impart the ability, confidence, and passion to seek out knowledge for the sake of personal growth. Regardless of your background or what topic you are learning, I bring an approachable, adaptable style to my work that develops a rapport with students that ultimately brings out their best. Math Specific Background: Despite never really being “into” math at a young age, I always excelled in the subject. By high school I accepted my fate as the resident math help and aided the school with peer tutoring and even joined the traveling math team for competitions. At university, I was inducted into the honorary mathematics fraternity, Pi Mu Epsilon. During my final two years as an undergraduate, I traveled to multiple mathematics conferences and gave talks on topics including, but not limited to, the mathematics of toilet paper. My senior year I received the Wilbur and Burdella Stuckey Carl Mathematics Prize for outstanding achievement in mathematics. After receiving my BS in Mathematics, I was offered a scholarship at the University of Akron to continue my education and teach simultaneously. In 2010 I earned an MS in theoretical mathematics and I have been teaching at universities while tutoring individuals ever since.

PhD Musicologist, Composer, and Experienced Teacher 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️

Hi! I have a PhD in musicology and have taught music theory and history at both Ivy League and community colleges. As a music scholar, composer, and performer, I have found that it is not enough to study a textbook. To become truly "fluent" in a skill – to develop such an experienced ear, feeling, and mind for a subject that it feels totally natural – we need to unleash our inner curiosity. Rather than forcing my students through a strict, traditional regimen, I view my work as that of a guide. I help my students explore their own passions and goals. I inspire them to ask questions and think independently. I am particularly keen on navigating my students through the vast and amazing world of FREE online music resources and communities. In addition to private tutoring, I have taught music theory and history at Brown University, New York University, Hebrew College, and the Borough of Manhattan Community College. I've written several blogs, including one on the music theory of Disney music. As an out-and-proud transgender woman and omnisexual, I understand and fully support LGBTQ+ students. I look forward to working together!

Efficient Mathematics Tutor with 20 years experience in all high school and most college level math courses, including Multivariable Calculus, Matrix Algebra, and Differential Equations

Since I am new to the TutorOcean platform, I am running a great sale for the first students: All lessons are currently only $15/hr. I have degrees in Mathematics (B.S. Cum Laude) and Physics (B.A. Cum Laude) and I have been tutoring college level and high school math subjects since 2006. I currently tutor all levels of Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus (high school; I and II; AP AB, and AP BC), Multivariable Calculus (i.e. Calculus 3), and Linear Algebra. I also occasionally tutor Ordinary Differential Equations, Probability, and Statistics. I received the Outstanding Service Award as Supplemental Instructor at the University of North Texas in 2007 and I won the military's "Who's your Favorite Tutor" contest in 2013 with another tutoring service. I know all the ins and outs of math problems. I love working with people and knowing that I've helped someone achieve real understanding of a subject. Oftentimes, students might struggle with an entire subject because they are missing prerequisite information on only a handful of topics, or even on only one concept; I can help you identity what's causing the problem and how to achieve mastery of that topic as easily and as efficiently as possible. I'll break down any math topic, problem, or solution method into its component parts, explain and describe how each part works, and help you work through examples and guide you step-by-step through the concepts and processes so that at the end of the lesson, you not only have the work completed, but have a solid understanding of the concepts and how to solve problems of this type in the future. I tutor exclusively online, and my schedule varies from week to week, but I am typically available most weeks M - Sa. Feel free to message me any time if you have any further questions or if you would like to schedule an online lesson.

Experienced Organic Chemistry Tutor

Chemistry is an overwhelming and frustrating subject for many students. I specialize in breaking down concepts and explaining them in an understandable way. Recognizing that everyone does not learn a subject in the same manner, I constantly adapt my teaching style to meet the individual needs of my students. My role as a tutor is to help my students gain the self-confidence they need to learn the material and attain their educational goals. I have several years of tutoring experience in Organic Chemistry. My students have ranged from science majors to business majors. Many have plans to attend medical or veterinary school. Quite a number have been in nursing or health science programs. As a graduate student, I was a teaching assistant for General Chemistry, undergraduate Organic Chemistry lab, and advanced Organic Chemistry lab. During my years of undergraduate and graduate research, as well as my time spent as a postdoctoral researcher and research scientist, I supervised undergraduates starting their own research careers. I want to be a beneficial resource for my students, and I welcome any materials or suggestions they may have. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule an appointment. I will always give a prompt reply to any inquiry.
