University of South Florida, Ross University School of Medicine

Medical Student | Biology, Anatomy, Physiology, Pre-Med & USMLE Tutor

Hello! My name is Sara, and I am currently a third-year medical student pursuing my M.D. at Ross University School of Medicine (RUSM), with a background in Biology from the University of South Florida. Throughout medical school, I have completed extensive coursework in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pathology, pharmacology, and the basic medical sciences. I have successfully completed the basic science portion of medical school and passed the USMLE Step 1 examination, demonstrating a strong understanding of the foundational medical sciences. I discovered that biology is best understood when difficult concepts are broken down into manageable pieces. Once those smaller pieces make sense, it becomes much easier to understand the bigger picture. Throughout my board exam preparation, I completed numerous NBME practice examinations and extensively used UWorld and AMBOSS, giving me experience with many different ways scientific concepts and exam questions can be presented. Medical school quickly teaches you how to explain complex topics clearly, collaborate with others, and adapt your explanations until something finally clicks. Over the past three years, I have spent countless hours doing exactly that. My approach focuses on helping students understand why something works instead of simply memorizing facts. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my teaching style to meet each student's individual needs, learning pace, and academic goals. Whether you're preparing for an upcoming exam, trying to improve your grades, or simply looking for someone who can explain science in a way that makes sense, my goal is to create a supportive space. My goal is not only to help you succeed on your next exam but also to help you develop the confidence and understanding that will continue to benefit you long after our tutoring sessions.

Experienced Math Tutor

I have had about two years of experience in tutoring kids of many grade levels at local after-school programs. Although I enjoy various school subjects, math is my favorite because of my love of numbers. Moreover, I get a thrill out of applying problems involving math and numbers to the real world and students' real-life experiences. For example, I figured that several middle school students at one of the organizations I worked for, the Japanese Community Youth Council, enjoyed playing video games, so I occasionally incorporated those into my demonstrations and examples. Additionally, I often worked with students in groups of two to four, and this encouraged collaboration among them. Consequently, the students’ grades increased by at least 25%. Furthermore, towards the close of the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, the organization rewarded me for my contributions with certificates of recognition. At another program, 826 Valencia, I tutored kids ages 6-16 during the fall 2015 semester, providing another opportunity to engage and collaborate with students. For example, one student needed help with problems related to linear equations. The assignment contained the term “Figure 0”, the latter of which seemed foreign to me. But after I recalled terminology in my high school math classes, both of us were able to determine that Figure 0 was its y-intercept. Overall, I felt proud that I could help a student simplify a challenging concept.

Rutgers University

PhD Scientist Tutor| Chemistry, R programming, Data and Statistics

I have both a Bachelor's in Chemistry and a PhD in Environmental Sciences from Rutgers University. I have over 25 years experience both working with scientific and statistical models in the fields of chemistry and air pollution. I have been tutoring chemistry since 2003, helping many students find success in High School, AP and College level Chemistry classes. My own educational achievements in Chemistry include achieving a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam and receiving my Bachelors in Chemistry with Highest Honors. I believe chemistry is extremely useful for understanding the everyday world, provides a basis for study in numerous scientific fields, and is great training for combining analytical thinking with common experience. Having gone through a number of confusing classes myself, I am passionate about breaking down complex problems into simple and easily understandable concepts, and passing the same ability to students to help them develop their analytical thinking as efficiently as possible. Additionally, I have been using the R programming language since 2008 for my daily work in my data analysis career. I have been tutoring students in R for a number of years now, and I especially enjoy helping students new to R and programming in getting started with their first data analyses. Many students first encounter R in classes without prior programming experience and I can help get you going with using R for your data manipulation and visualization assignments. I also enjoy serving as a long term mentor for graduate students using R to perform data analyses for master's and Ph.D. theses, In addition to assistance with R coding, I am happy to share my insights and experience with dissertation writing and graduate school experience in addition to understanding and interpreting both R code and analytical results. I am available most weekday afternoons and evenings, and am flexible on the weekends, so please let me know if I can help you!
