Engaging, expert and enthusiastic tuition of science.

I am a very approachable person. I have always been fascinated by science and have long enjoyed passing on my interest to numerous students, many of whom have been inspired to become scientists or medics themselves. I believe that one to one tuition is a hugely effective way to improve a student's performance. When I go through my own thought processes with a student as to how to answer an exam question, I really add value to the student's attainment. It is my philosophy that questions should really be approached as challenging yet fun puzzles. Learning to me is a lifelong joy. I regard myself primarily as a scientist, and my PhD was in mitochondrial bioenergetics, which was at the interface between chemistry, physics and biology. After my PhD I was a professional scientist at Leicester University doing research on the enzyme DNA Gyrase, which supercoils DNA. Astronomy is my hobby (together with playing the saxophone and observing frogs and newts in my pond). I have no other commitments beyond being a tutor, so can devote all of my energy to it. I achieved A Levels in Chemistry (grade A) Physics (grade A) and Biology (grade A) in 1980 at Southwell Minster Grammar School.

Stockton University

Experienced College & K-12 Tutor- Math, Physics, Economics, Science, & Writing

Key Words: Discrete Math, Discrete Mathematics, Proofs, Pre-Calc, Pre-Calculus, PreCalc, PreCalculus, Calc or Calculus, Alg or Algebra, Trig or Trigonometry, Geometry, College Math, College Mathematics, Quantitative Reasoning, high school math or mathematics, Common Core, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th grade I tutor students in College/University & K-12 and have 5+ yrs of experience as an online/remote Tutor. I specialize in undergraduate Math, but also frequently tutor Physics, Economics, Taxation, and English/Writing. I love Math & always hope that my enthusiasm/encouragement can help students, whether they are looking to progress in Math or just complete their required courses. I have found that all students will hit a group of Mathematical concepts that just do not click, whether it is early in K-12 or not until 3rd-4th year university level Math. It can be very frustrating, especially when it is difficult or even impossible to obtain the necessary help from teachers, campus tutors, etc. The primary goal of hiring a tutor is to receive individualized assistance & a customized approach. That is why I tailor my explanations to each student's learning style. For instance, some students prefer that I look over their work & just give them hints when they get stuck. Other students prefer to provide me with specific questions they are stuck on, & have me show them as a tutorial. I particularly try to focus on the underlying concepts & provide the student with context as to how each concept matters. Far too often, students are told to do things a certain way, but they are not told why nor even how it pertains overall. I have a BS in Mathematics from Stockton University. During college, I developed study groups in Partial Diff Eq, Engineering Graphics, & Adv Discrete Math. I was also Treasurer of Stockton's Math Club, which focused primarily on assisting local students & hosted an annual Math Mayhem competition between 12 N.J. High Schools.

Kaden D.

University of Utah

Applied Math B.S. with 4 years tutoring experience

Hello! My name is Kaden and I am an applied math Bachelor's graduate from the University of Utah (4.0 GPA in major). Since high school and throughout college, I have worked in various math tutoring positions with Kindergarten through college-age students, coming from many different backgrounds, in a variety of math subjects: elementary and pre-high school math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, quantitative reasoning, pre-calculus, calculus, linear algebra, differential/partial differential equations, probability, statistics, discrete math, and real analysis. I have experience tutoring both 1-on-1 and in group settings. One of the aspects I enjoy most about tutoring is sharing my passion for learning and critical thinking with others. I strive not to bombard students with random, seemingly unrelated, pieces of information and thinking processes. Rather, I learn who they are and tailor my lessons to their unique personality and learning style. Whatever your goals may be, consider choosing me as your dependable guide to better learning and thinking.
