Portsmouth Grammar School, University of Birmingham

Medical Student offering tuition in Sciences and Maths up to GCSE

Medical student offering personal tuition for students of any skill level from junior school to GCSE. From October to April, most of my time is spent at university in Birmingham, but through the Summer months I'm back home in Portsmouth. I attended the Portsmouth Grammar School from age 8 to 18, and achieved 11 A*s at GCSE and 41/45 points at IB Diploma (A level equivalent). In that time I also gained early experience in tuition, assisting with junior school French and English classes. I have always found tremendous satisfaction from helping others learn and grasp concepts, and would love to share any knowledge and experience gained through school and university to assist others in their progress and allow them to feel more confident in their learning. Having seen my own brother struggle with dyslexia and subsequently thrive thanks to one-to-one sessions, I have a true appreciation for the difference that personal tuition can make not only to a child's learning, but also to their self-esteem. Everybody works best using different techniques, many of which are not fully utilised in a classroom setting. I would give students an opportunity to tackle areas of weakness using learning styles best suited to them.

I'm a TEFL-certified teacher who's enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and fluent in English. I have 12 years of experience studying English and can bring a unique perspective to your learning journey.

In addition to my teaching qualifications, I have hands-on experience as a teacher assistant at a local school, where I worked with children aged 5 to 15. I've also been an English tutor in my community, helping students of all ages improve their language skills. These experiences have given me a deep understanding of the challenges and rewards of teaching. As a teacher, I take a student-centered approach, focusing on the individual needs and goals of each student. I believe that each student learns in their own unique way, and I tailor my teaching methods accordingly. I use a variety of techniques, including interactive activities, engaging games, and personalized feedback, to help my students make the most of their language learning journey

Biochemist with a Decade of Teaching Experience!

Hi! My name is Katie, I consider myself to be a lifelong collector of knowledge, and find that I learn as much while teaching as my students do! Some of the knowledge I've collected; -Over a decade of childcare experience, including tutoring and mentoring -My B.S. Biochemistry from Gonzaga University -A published article in a Nature subsidiary (Neupane, T., Chambers, L.R., Godfrey, A.J. et al. Microbial rhodoquinone biosynthesis proceeds via an atypical RquA-catalyzed amino transfer from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to ubiquinone. Commun Chem 5, 89 (2022)) -Several ski instructing certifications; Level 1, Child Specialist 1, and Level 2 -2 years of business management experience -Lab management experience at Plug Power, a hydrogen power cell company -A composite year of solo global travel time -Conversational proficiency in Spanish (currently learning French and Japanese as well!) I'm beyond excited to be tutoring again. The ability to challenge your own viewpoints and help others challenge theirs is a big part of my life, and I want to bring that creativity into helping you (and me) learn something new! My teaching style tends to be very fun and creative - I put a lot of import into each student's learning style and making sure material makes sense in the long term, and not just for the next test. Each student is an individual and as a one-on-one tutor I have the delight of getting to make sure learning feels that way!
