Portsmouth Grammar School, University of Birmingham

Medical Student offering tuition in Sciences and Maths up to GCSE

Medical student offering personal tuition for students of any skill level from junior school to GCSE. From October to April, most of my time is spent at university in Birmingham, but through the Summer months I'm back home in Portsmouth. I attended the Portsmouth Grammar School from age 8 to 18, and achieved 11 A*s at GCSE and 41/45 points at IB Diploma (A level equivalent). In that time I also gained early experience in tuition, assisting with junior school French and English classes. I have always found tremendous satisfaction from helping others learn and grasp concepts, and would love to share any knowledge and experience gained through school and university to assist others in their progress and allow them to feel more confident in their learning. Having seen my own brother struggle with dyslexia and subsequently thrive thanks to one-to-one sessions, I have a true appreciation for the difference that personal tuition can make not only to a child's learning, but also to their self-esteem. Everybody works best using different techniques, many of which are not fully utilised in a classroom setting. I would give students an opportunity to tackle areas of weakness using learning styles best suited to them.

School tutoring ($70/hour): For school students, I offer tutoring on a range of science and math subjects. I have had experience tutoring students from year 2 students with learning difficulties all the way up to high-performing extension mathematics students in year 12. I only offer tutoring services on the subjects that I am confident in, performed well in myself, and that I am up to date on the current syllabus and content. These include: - High School Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics - Primary School Mathematics and Science University/Medicine applicants ($80/hour): For university students and prospective medical students, I offer a range of services and can adapt to your specific needs. I have been there before, and understand how confusing and overwhelming undergraduate studies and medical school applications can be. Mariam E.

Queen's University

Chemical Engineering student by day, dedicated STEM tutor by night

Hi! My name is Mariam and I am an experienced tutor specializing in STEM subjects. I am currently studying Chemical Engineering at Queen's University and have been tutoring for 3 years. I have always had a strong passion for teaching and consider it a hobby more than a profession. During my time as a tutor, I have worked with a wide range of students, from elementary schoolers struggling with long division to university students looking to deepen their understanding of thermodynamics. I have been extremely lucky to have had incredible teachers and mentors throughout my education and through them I have adopted essential skills for a tutor such as adaptability and patience. My students appreciate my ability to break down challenging concepts into manageable pieces and ability to connect with them to create a comfortable learning environment where they feel supported and motivated to learn. I usually begin with a diagnostic session to assess the student's understanding and if they are missing prerequisite knowledge. Then, I create a structured lesson plan and session timeline based on the student's strengths and weaknesses. I strive to create a comfortable and engaging learning environment where students feel free to ask questions and explore new ideas. I also provide plenty of practice problems and feedback to help students improve their skills and gain confidence in their abilities. Above all, I believe in empowering students to become independent learners who can tackle new challenges with confidence. I work to instill a love of learning in my students and encourage them to take ownership of their education.
