Aloha, friend! My name is Lucas Jarrett, and I’m an online tutor! If I had to characterize my approach to helping people learn in simple terms, I would say that I believe education is a matter of teaching adaptability. The ability to adapt, or the capacity to change, is the fundamental skill of learning all things. We must always be prepared to adopt new ways of being. When we study life, we study the infinite; and when we study the infinite, our mindsets must be similar, or else we will not see everything that we could have seen. To realize that learning is the art of changing is to begin learning everything more easily. My primary goal is to help my students see and apply this awareness when studying anything they hope to do well. I have professional experience teaching many subjects, including arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, philosophy, biology, history, psychology, music, billiards, writing, research, literature, English, Java, Python, HTML, CSS, SQL, and more. Furthermore, I’m happy to offer insight into cognitive habits that often bring academic trouble, such as perfectionism, motivation, inattention, depression, and anxiety. I do not limit my educational strategies to any single methodology; I believe that every individual has a unique path in life, and I therefore work to be responsive to the specific, immediate needs of my students. Context is everything. If I'm trying to help a student become a better reader and writer, I may recommend that we explore good literature together; if I am helping someone prepare for a test in geometry, good practice problems and instructional resources will likely be part of the process. Hi there! I am a physics masters candidate at York university studying nano-satellite engineering. I finished my honors bachelors of astrophysics at McMaster university in April of 2023. Unlike many other tutors who have been successful through all of high school, I struggled with my early academic career. During the end of my second year of university, I had the opportunity to get help from an extremely passionate teaching assistant, who changed my view on math from a "challenging, boring" subject to something which I have become deeply interested in. With my newfound love for the material, I worked my way up to finishing my 4th year with a 3.92/4.0 GPA. This makes me uniquely qualified to be a tutor - I am familiar with the feeling of being lost when it comes to math and physics, and I know what it takes to turn that around. I have been told by former students that I am very good at breaking down complicated subjects using analogies and deconstructions, and then building back up to the more difficult material. My life's goal is to teach physics and astronomy.
