Former University Instructor Specializing in Discrete Mathematics and Proof Writing

Does discrete mathematics feel completely different from the mathematics you studied before university? Many capable students understand the definitions but do not know how to begin a proof, choose an appropriate proof technique, or turn their reasoning into a solution that earns full marks. That transition is my specialty. I taught mathematics at the University of Manitoba from 2005 through 2023, including extensive experience teaching first-year discrete mathematics. My graduate work focused on graph theory and combinatorics. Because I have taught and graded this material at the university level, I understand both sides of the problem: how students typically get stuck and what an instructor expects in a complete, well-written proof. I can help with propositional and predicate logic, quantifiers and negation, sets, functions and relations, direct proof, contrapositive and contradiction, mathematical induction, counting and combinatorics, the pigeonhole principle, recurrence relations, elementary number theory, graph theory, and mathematical writing. A typical session begins by identifying the precise point of confusion. We clarify the relevant definitions, select a strategy, and work through an example together. You then try a related problem while I provide guidance and immediate feedback. I teach students how to reason through problems rather than simply supplying answers. I do not complete graded assignments, tests, or examinations on a student's behalf. University of Manitoba MATH 1240 students are especially welcome, and I work with university discrete mathematics students throughout Canada and internationally. I currently accept a small number of online students.

Tutor of school / higher mathematics, physics, and programming. I can teach in Russian, Ukrainian, and in English. One-time or long-term assistance is possible (homeworks, tests, etc.)

I prepare: 1. students for tests and exams in the following subjects: discrete mathematics, linear algebra, analytical geometry, mathematical analysis (calculus), differential equations, complex analysis, functional analysis, operational calculus, probability theory, numerical methods, operations research; basics of programming in C/C++/C#, Java, Python. 2. school students for different kind of exams. About me: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with honors. Graduated from ZL №105 with a major in mathematics / informatics. Scored 200 points on the NMT in mathematics. Was a prize-winner of regional and provincial Olympiads in mathematics, informatics, and the Ukrainian language. Successfully completed a programming course in C/C++. Successfully completed the course “Basics of Java Programming and Modeling of Physical Processes”. Received a 3rd-degree diploma for winning the project competition “Computer Modeling of a Physical Experiment” (in Java). Awarded a commendation for special achievements in informatics research. Participated three times in the All-Ukrainian Collegiate Programming Contest ICPC (2022, 2023, and 2024). !!! I am quite open-minded when it comes to educational process, but I have 1 rule: A lesson canceled or rescheduled less than 6-8 hours before its start is paid in full. If I reschedule or cancel in this manner, the next lesson will be free for you
