Math, Science, and ACT/SAT Tutor

My name is Sera and I am a pre-medicine student and biochemistry major at New York University. I am also in the top 10% of my incoming class at NYU College of Arts and Sciences. I have been tutoring in math and english since I was a sophomore in high school. I spent a year as a math instructor at Mathnasium of Plainsboro, a center that is part of a franchise that consists of more than 700 centers that give math instruction for kids in K-12. Throughout my time at Mathnasium, I have tutored students in first to eleventh grades in elementary and middle school math, pre-algebra, algebra 1 and 2, trigonometry, and geometry. I am now a private tutor in Manhattan, and I tutor all K-12 math subjects, up to introductory college chemistry, and SAT/ACTs. I've scored a composite score of 35 out of 36 on the ACTs and have achieved a perfect score on both the English and Reading sections, while I scored 1 point away from a perfect in math. I have also taken and scored well on SAT subject tests including SAT Math 2, SAT Chemistry, and SAT Biology. During high school I have taken math classes including geometry honors, advanced algebra 2 honors, pre-calculus honors, and AP Calculus AB and I have taken science classes including biology honors, chemistry honors, physics honors, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, and Human Anatomy and Physiology. I offer both in person and online classes and I am flexible on the hourly rate so please feel free to message me with any questions.

Biochemist with a Decade of Teaching Experience!

Hi! My name is Katie, I consider myself to be a lifelong collector of knowledge, and find that I learn as much while teaching as my students do! Some of the knowledge I've collected; -Over a decade of childcare experience, including tutoring and mentoring -My B.S. Biochemistry from Gonzaga University -A published article in a Nature subsidiary (Neupane, T., Chambers, L.R., Godfrey, A.J. et al. Microbial rhodoquinone biosynthesis proceeds via an atypical RquA-catalyzed amino transfer from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to ubiquinone. Commun Chem 5, 89 (2022)) -Several ski instructing certifications; Level 1, Child Specialist 1, and Level 2 -2 years of business management experience -Lab management experience at Plug Power, a hydrogen power cell company -A composite year of solo global travel time -Conversational proficiency in Spanish (currently learning French and Japanese as well!) I'm beyond excited to be tutoring again. The ability to challenge your own viewpoints and help others challenge theirs is a big part of my life, and I want to bring that creativity into helping you (and me) learn something new! My teaching style tends to be very fun and creative - I put a lot of import into each student's learning style and making sure material makes sense in the long term, and not just for the next test. Each student is an individual and as a one-on-one tutor I have the delight of getting to make sure learning feels that way!

An instant stop by place for students' queries.

I have two years of tutoring experience, primarily in-home tutoring. I consistently use engaging and creative teaching strategies that students may always appreciate. Students showed more confidence in discussing their issues during the whole time I was teaching. My teaching strategy emphasizes critical thinking skills which are mandatory to excel in an outside world.

MD Student and Published Researcher with >90th Percentile MCAT

Howdy – I’m Scott. I’m a decidedly non-traditional medical student who didn’t learn how to study effectively until I was an adult, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help of tutors! You might have some amazing teachers or professors, but it’s unlikely they’ll all present course material in a way that works for you. If you aren’t getting the results you’re expecting, it’s time to find a new approach that will get you where you want to be. I have experience tutoring teenage to adult learners in a broad range of science topics, from basic chemistry to anatomy and physiology. Whether you are just trying to meet graduation requirements or preparing for a career in science or medicine, my goal is to help you develop the skills of a lifelong learner and make myself redundant as soon as possible. We will find the styles of learning that complement your strengths and use those methods to develop in any areas you find more challenging. My background: After graduating with a degree in Information Technology, I initially worked in the entertainment industry training professional video editors before transitioning to medical education. From 2008-2012, I taught clinical skills to medical students at UCSF and the University of Minnesota. From 2013-2020, I worked full-time in clinical research at the University of Colorado. I self-studied to score >90th percentile on my first MCAT attempt and just completed my first year of medical school.
