Passionate Math Tutor

Hello, my name is Fiyin and I have been a freelance math teacher for over two years. Since I began teaching math as a freelancer, I have learnt the diverse difficulties that students have with the subject and have learnt to address each one uniquely. What has distinguised my approach is the ability to understand every single student's areas of strength and weakness. With this, I have always helped them to focus on and apply their areas of strength to solve math tasks and in the process, overcome their weaknesses. Solving a lot of different examples per math concept is key to understanding and mastering them, and this has been another good part of my approach. Do book a lesson and I really look forward to interacting with you soon.

Experienced Math Tutor

I have had about two years of experience in tutoring kids of many grade levels at local after-school programs. Although I enjoy various school subjects, math is my favorite because of my love of numbers. Moreover, I get a thrill out of applying problems involving math and numbers to the real world and students' real-life experiences. For example, I figured that several middle school students at one of the organizations I worked for, the Japanese Community Youth Council, enjoyed playing video games, so I occasionally incorporated those into my demonstrations and examples. Additionally, I often worked with students in groups of two to four, and this encouraged collaboration among them. Consequently, the students’ grades increased by at least 25%. Furthermore, towards the close of the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, the organization rewarded me for my contributions with certificates of recognition. At another program, 826 Valencia, I tutored kids ages 6-16 during the fall 2015 semester, providing another opportunity to engage and collaborate with students. For example, one student needed help with problems related to linear equations. The assignment contained the term “Figure 0”, the latter of which seemed foreign to me. But after I recalled terminology in my high school math classes, both of us were able to determine that Figure 0 was its y-intercept. Overall, I felt proud that I could help a student simplify a challenging concept.
