Rutgers University
Hi! I have been teaching English literature and writing courses for over a decade. I hold a BA from Rice University and PhD in English from Rutgers, and am currently a faculty member in the Writing Program there. I teach courses on English literature, composition, and proposal writing for business and sciences. In each of my classes, I help students who have little or no experience with academic writing or research master the skills they need to succeed at the college level and beyond. In addition to this classroom experience, I have tutored students, ages 8 to 40, in all forms of writing, from high school essays to application letters to grant proposals, as well as test preparation and broader executive function and presentation skills. In my sessions, I not only help students to internalize strategies for effective writing and problem solving, but also to build confidence and appreciate the process of learning. I can boast of former students at many top universities (including Yale, Penn, Columbia, Brown, and Oxford) and graduate programs in a variety of fields. Most importantly, I help students take pride in their work and in each step of their intellectual journeys.

Univeristy of Cambridge
Over the last decade, since graduating from Cambridge with an MSci in Natural Sciences, I have worked as a classroom science teacher, a private educator and a university and schools consultant in Monaco, Dubai, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA. Throughout this time I have worked with students as young as 5, all the way up to MBA students. Although I'm passionate about sharing my love for all aspects of STEM, my primary focus has been on math(s), physics, chemistry, and biology tutoring for students up to the age of 18. That being said, I consider myself to be a STEM communicator as much as a teacher, and over the last decade I have had the privilege of leading students through lessons on pretty much any topic imaginable. My goal is to meet each of my students on their own terms and impart a deep appreciation and understanding of the topic at hand. To begin with we'll spend time discussing your personal aims and assessing your problem areas, then come up with specific plans to address each of these in turn. I strongly believe that students learn best when they are relaxed and enjoying themselves, so I strive to make my classroom a positive environment where you won’t be afraid to make educated guesses or get the answer wrong. In general, we will begin each topic by discussing the themes and ideas behind it, before going over some related questions together. Once you’re feeling more confident, I’ll then set you some work to try on your own. I try to cover most of the necessary work in class, but I can also provide extra work to be done in your own time, if required. I am very aware that everyone learns differently and understands concepts in their own way, so I adapt my techniques to fit each individual. What I can guarantee is that in each lesson we will work together to address and understand concepts in a way that makes sense to you. Get in touch so we can go over your learning style, get to know each other and discuss the best way to help you reach your goals.

Columbia University in the City of New York, Horace Mann School
I graduated from Columbia University in the City of New York. Tutoring and mentoring are passions of mine. Throughout college, I served as a tutor in Biology, Psychology, English, and SAT prep. As a Horace Mann High School student, I also previously tutored Riverdale residents. My years of experience have taught me how to be flexible and how to adapt to individual student needs. My goal is to provide the academic support essential for you to excel in your coursework, to connect you to the appropriate resources, and to encourage consistent engagement with the subject. I create a safe space in which you are encouraged to ask questions, to think critically, and to problem solve. By identifying and addressing weak points of understanding, I will work to teach you how to break down difficult problems into understandable solutions. I look forward to challenging your understanding of your coursework and equipping you with the fundamental building blocks necessary for you to master the material.

I am a National Tutoring Association (NTA) professional advanced level certified tutor, and a Purdue University graduate, with a degree in Business Management and Information Systems. I have about 20 years of mentoring and tutoring experience combined. Over the last 10 years, I have been primarily focused on tutoring in elementary to high school level mathematics both as a volunteer and as a private tutor. During that timespan, I have tutored over 250 students from over 40 US states and Canadian provinces and over 20 colleges and universities, both in-person and online. I approach tutoring and mentoring with patience, understanding that each student learns in a different way and at a different pace. I like to ensure that when I'm helping my students, that they're seeing the connection and relationship between each concept to what they're being taught in school, so that they become more accustomed to forming patterns and drawing meaning to what they learn. This is important in building motivation and confidence. Simultaneously, I guide students to become effective problem solvers, critical thinkers, and independent learners.
