I have been working in a field of education for over 6 years now. I have worked in the school board as a teaching assistant working as a team with the classroom teacher to ensure all students are fully engaged in the material. I have also worked as a private tutor for a number of years working with any subject areas my students are struggling with. I have spent time working with ESL students both in person and online through the VIPKid platform.

TESOL CERTIFIED! I am currently a senior at the Werklund School of Education, University of Calgary, with an expected graduation date in 2024. During this past summer, I successfully completed the TESOL certificate program, specializing in adolescent English Language Learners (ELL) teaching. My journey in education began during high school when I started tutoring, and I've continued to expand my teaching skills as a pre-service teacher, gaining valuable experience through a month-long, in-person teaching practicum with a class of more than 25 students. Throughout my teaching and tutoring experiences, I've discovered a profound passion for instructing elementary-level English Language Arts and Mathematics. I view these two subjects as the cornerstones of a student's future academic success. Consequently, I'm enthusiastic about developing tailored strategies for each individual student facing difficulties in these areas. I am specifically interested in assisting students who are English Language Learners because I was once a newcomer to Canada as well. I can relate profoundly to the emotional and academic challenges my students are encountering. With my expertise in ELL education and experience teaching ELL, I have learned the most recent English learning theories and gained the appropriate tools to help my students regain their confidence in a brand-new education system. In my leisure time, I enjoy making handicrafts and exploring new travel destinations. I am also a fan of Japanese anime.

As an online tutor, my expertise lies in providing personalized, interactive, and clear explanations across a wide range of subjects, including but not limited to: 1. **Mathematics**: From basic arithmetic to advanced calculus, I help students grasp complex concepts, solve problems, and build strong foundational skills. 2. **Science**: I assist with physics, chemistry, and biology, helping students understand key theories, conduct experiments virtually, and improve problem-solving abilities. 3. **Language Arts**: Whether it’s writing, grammar, literature analysis, or reading comprehension, I guide students in expressing themselves clearly and confidently, while fostering a love for reading and writing. 4. **Test Preparation**: I offer tailored strategies and practice for standardized tests (e.g., SAT, ACT, GRE), helping students improve their scores through focused review, test-taking strategies, and stress management techniques. 5. **Critical Thinking and Problem Solving**: I emphasize analytical thinking across subjects, encouraging students to approach problems methodically, think critically, and develop strong reasoning skills. 6. **Study Skills and Organization**: Beyond content mastery, I work with students on time management, goal setting, and study strategies to ensure they can learn efficiently and effectively. I adapt my teaching style to each student's unique learning needs, whether they thrive with visual aids, hands-on practice, or in-depth explanations. My approach is patient, supportive, and focused on helping students build confidence and mastery in their subjects.

After seven years of teaching test prep at all levels and three additional years teaching sixth grade math within New York's charter school system, I've decided I'd actually like to do what I'm best at: help people learn! While I'm more than happy to help you reach your goals on a standardized test, I don't want to have to use materials that I don't think are well suited to that test simply because they are the materials provided by the service I happen to work for. Although I'm excited to help young scholars realize that maybe middle school math isn't quite as tough as they thought, I cannot do that when I have to use a curriculum that makes every step of the math more difficult. Therefore, I've decided to start a new chapter in my career by providing my services freelance. I have a variety of talents, interests, and experience, which I strongly feel make me a well-rounded, seasoned educator. Typically, services that I have worked for have charged anything from $69-$189 per hour for test prep or even homework help, often sending in a tutor with less experience than myself (I know, I used to be that less experienced tutor). As I gain a client base and learn the ropes of providing my expertise without the support of a traditional tutoring service, I'm offering the same level of knowledge (and most likely more personality) for **less than half the price** of a traditional service. Let's learn together!
