I've been a Mathematics and English teacher since 1993. I taught in High School (Formal School) for the first 15 years of my career and then moved on to Test Prep with The Princeton Review in 2008. I was soon awarded my Master Trainer Certification in 2011 by none other than John Fulmer, The Princeton Review's Content Director for the GMAT and the GRE. I do owe my experience with Test Prep to The Princeton Review's Courses, (GMAT, GRE, SAT, ACT, and LSAT) which I taught for over 15 years. I am now a Freelance Test Prep Coach and specialize in tutoring students for the GMAT, GRE, and the SAT. Test Prep for a test taker involves a lot more than just learning content tested. It has a lot to do with disciplining thought processes and enhancing objectivity. The test taker has to be trained to work efficiently with accuracy within prescribed timelines. He or she needs to come up with logically deduced solutions to problems while keeping calm and focused through stressful situations. Therefore, my job as a trainer is akin to that of a coach on the field - mentoring and perfecting through regular drilling all the skill sets a test-taker will need to ace his or her test! I am thus very well equipped to holistically prepare students for their standardized tests and have countless top scorers as my students over these many years of my teaching the SAT and the GMAT for the Princeton Review. Inspired by the machinations of mad scientists in science fiction films and video games, I realized early on as a kid that I wanted to study science and math. A homeschooled child, I quickly took the reins to learn on my own and attended high school online through Florida virtual school. I self-studied for the PSAT exam, through which I won a National Merit Scholarship. A number of AP exams later, I attended New College of Florida, the honors college of Florida, where I worked as a teaching assistant for Genetics and General Chemistry. After earning my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, I dove back into test prep. With a strong GRE score, I was accepted to the Computational Biology PhD program at the University of California Berkeley. There, I quickly realized that a life in the lab wasn’t for me. Instead, I decided to use my talent in the test center and the classroom to help others achieve their own academic success. As a homeschooler in college, I quickly realized how the typical classroom experience can fail students. I struggled to grasp new concepts through my instructors’ lectures. As they spoke on and on in front of the class, I would often have to give up on understanding what they were talking about. It was only after a lot of homework and one-on-one meetings with my instructors that I was able to succeed in those classes. That experience informs my approach to tutoring. I’m not going to talk at you while trudging through a presentation. We’re going to work problems together. I’m here to support and guide you, not lecture you.
