Broke College Math Tutor looking for Tutees

Hi there! My name is Herbert Ortiz, but I often go by Herb. I am currently a Math and Physics double major at New York University. While I spend a lot of time in class and studying, my math doesn't stop there. I often spend my time tutoring whenever and whoever I can, doing Putnam-style math problems, and just engaging in general math research(nothing serious, just casual learning of things that are not taught in the classroom). During my High School career, I tutored elementary and Intermediate school students in both Math and Science. This ranged from elementary math and science, all the way to basic Earth Science and Algebra 1. I also tutored my fellow high school students. I am able to tutor whoever wants to in the subjects listed in my profile below. With my tutee, I try to make sure they get to see the beauty and art behind math, which often gets lost within the classroom. I also try to make sure I provide a judgment-free zone, where tutees can feel like they ask any question without feeling dumb or stupid. I will also make sure I try to make sure I get them to understand as much as possible about the material during our time together. Lastly, I will do whatever in my power I can to make sure we just have fun with math! I look forward to tutoring with you soon! :)

Jadon B.

University of Texas at Austin

Effective Math Tutor Possessing Over Four Years of Experience

I'm Jadon currently an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin and strive to become a math professor. I was at the top of my class in high school, taking Calculus III as a senior, finishing with honors, and a 104 GPA. I have had prior tutoring experience in math, history and Spanish while working at Kumon for two years. In this environment, I interacted with 2-5 students in a classroom, assisting them when needed and creating a stress-free environment they could enjoy. I also started my own tutoring organization known as No Pay to Learn and Play for three years. I created this organization to help those in isolation do well in school. I strove to create a personal connection with them and would often play chess with them after our lesson to learn more about their personality. This was to better tailor my teachings to their personality and needs. I have come to understand how important the relationship between the student and teacher is when it comes to the learning experience. This relationship could change how a student views a subject forever and improve how they learn the subject altogether. I am a firm believer that every student has different forms of learning and deserves my undivided attention to understand what they need. In order to incorporate this ideology, I would ask the students what their ambition is and connect what they are learning to that ambition. In this way, the student will become more motivated to learn the material. I would ask how they learn best: visually, through listening or maybe something else. Lastly, I would be patient and engaging with the student in that I would continue to explain the concept until they understand, and I would create more creative methods of learning such as mnemonic devices. I am very flexible with my schedule and quick to respond. My goal is to improve students' learning experience and enjoy learning. I wish to help students get ahead or get back on track.
