Emory grad with over 12 years experience tutoring Math, Science, English, Foreign Language, and Test Prep

As an avid learner, I always encourage learning in others. I have been tutoring since 2011. In that time, I have helped over 200 students of all ages prepare for over 50 subjects, standardized tests (ACT, SAT, ISEE, SSAT, GRE, GMAT), and foreign languages (Latin, Arabic, Spanish). I began tutoring professionally in my Sophomore year at Emory as a class aide and then branched out to tutoring privately, which I have been doing ever since. On average, my students see 10-15% increases in their scores within 4-8 regular sessions, and some students have seen as high as 30% increases. I tutor not only the content by essential test-taking strategy geared towards each test to make sure students are making the most out of their time. I possess a wealth of knowledge in many areas, but one of the things that I find fun about learning is seeing how subjects connect to the real world. This is one of my greatest strengths as a tutor as I show students the different ways in which their studies connect to the world, their ambitions, and interests.

Professional Teacher - from Struggles to Strengths

Hello! I'm Meghan, from Los Angeles. I've been married for 28 years, and we have 2 children and a granddaughter. My native language is English, but I’ve been speaking Spanish fluently since the age of 9, when my family was transferred to Guayaquil, Ecuador for my father’s job. I’ve been teaching for over 15 years in self-contained classrooms, small-group and one-to-one interventions in elementary, middle, and high schools; most were Title 1 and/or dual language schools. I hold dual degrees in Bilingual/Bicultural Education and Spanish Language & Literature, and I have a current California Multiple Subject teaching credential in good standing. I believe learning happens best when students are at the center of their educational journey. As your tutor, I guide you through hands-on exploration and independent thinking, using the gradual release method - I demonstrate while explaining my thought process, then we practice together, and finally you'll work independently with confidence. Most importantly, I prioritize building genuine connections with each student. I'm naturally warm and approachable, often sharing stories that help us connect because real learning happens when students feel comfortable and understood. Whether you're struggling with concepts or looking to excel further, I'll meet you where you are and help you discover your own path to success.

Bishop Strachan School, McGill University

Student at McGill University, majoring in Cultural Studies (a branch of English Lit).

I am a student at McGill University, where I major in Cultural Studies (a branch of English Lit) and minor in Philosophy. The beginning of this year, I started writing for The McGill Daily, McGill’s oldest newspaper. From this opportunity, I developed the ability to write, in detail, about a variety of topics including culture and current affairs. Furthermore, it taught me how to efficiently communicate with a variety of diverse individuals and foster healthy work relationships.Prior to achieving the position of editor, I was a writer for my school newspaper for three years. Once promoted, I was in charge of deciding the content for each issue and editing the works of numerous students. This position taught me how to remain on-top of current events and learn how to attract my target audience. Furthermore, being editor strengthened my writing skills in terms of grammar and structure. I also improved my ability to work under pressure without comprising the quality of my work. In my graduating year of high school, I won the The Leta Macdonell Currer ’65 Memorial Scholarship for my expertise in writing and studies in English Lit.

As a high school and college student, I dedicated my time to tutoring elementary kids, fostering their love for learning and helping them build a solid foundation for academic success.

During my high school and college years, I developed a profound passion for education and community engagement, dedicating my time to tutoring elementary school children. As a tutor, I had the invaluable opportunity to witness the transformative power of personalized support in shaping young minds. My role extended beyond academic assistance; I became a mentor, fostering a love for learning and helping each child build a strong educational foundation. Tailoring my teaching approach to the unique needs of each student, I focused on creating an inclusive and encouraging environment where curiosity thrived. Through this experience, I not only deepened my understanding of effective teaching methods but also cultivated a sense of fulfillment in contributing to the educational journey of these young learners.

Biochemist with a Decade of Teaching Experience!

Hi! My name is Katie, I consider myself to be a lifelong collector of knowledge, and find that I learn as much while teaching as my students do! Some of the knowledge I've collected; -Over a decade of childcare experience, including tutoring and mentoring -My B.S. Biochemistry from Gonzaga University -A published article in a Nature subsidiary (Neupane, T., Chambers, L.R., Godfrey, A.J. et al. Microbial rhodoquinone biosynthesis proceeds via an atypical RquA-catalyzed amino transfer from S-adenosyl-L-methionine to ubiquinone. Commun Chem 5, 89 (2022)) -Several ski instructing certifications; Level 1, Child Specialist 1, and Level 2 -2 years of business management experience -Lab management experience at Plug Power, a hydrogen power cell company -A composite year of solo global travel time -Conversational proficiency in Spanish (currently learning French and Japanese as well!) I'm beyond excited to be tutoring again. The ability to challenge your own viewpoints and help others challenge theirs is a big part of my life, and I want to bring that creativity into helping you (and me) learn something new! My teaching style tends to be very fun and creative - I put a lot of import into each student's learning style and making sure material makes sense in the long term, and not just for the next test. Each student is an individual and as a one-on-one tutor I have the delight of getting to make sure learning feels that way!
