United States Air Force Academy, Florida Atlantic University

USAFA grad, MD, and returned Peace Corps Volunteer who loves to teach & coach

I am a 2004 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in philosophy & humanities. After graduation from college, I joined the United States Peace Corps and, for two years, lived in a small village in the sub-Saharan African country of Zambia. While there, I collaborated with Zambian colleagues at the grassroots level to increase rural awareness of preventive health measures to protect against malaria and other common diseases. Upon my return to the US from Africa, I began tutoring, and continued to do so as I worked my way through medical school. Subjects of expertise include standardized test prep, reading & writing, and math. My medical school experience forced me to learn techniques for efficient retention of large volumes of information. I, in turn, teach students these techniques, thus helping them retain what they have learned. I graduated from medical school in 2017 and continued tutoring, now with an additional focus on coaching. I believe this is what makes me unique as a tutor. I help students define goals, establish habits, and create systems that support good habits. We troubleshoot as difficulties maintaining habits arise, and modify our approach accordingly. I love helping students find their talents and translate them into career paths, including helping students find and apply for relevant programs of study, and finding professionals in those fields to advise and inspire. My medical knowledge, specifically my interest in mental health and how it contributes to academic & other success, also informs my work with students. I’ve successfully helped students with interventions like vitamin supplementation, dietary changes, and medication compliance for ADHD and other conditions, and more. I’ve consistently seen big improvements in students’ ability to focus, follow through, and in so doing, feel better about themselves. Please reach out if I can be of help to you or your student!

I am also a professional Integral Coach®, which means I am trained to embody emotional intelligence and work with you in a present, ethical, and empowering way. I also tutor in English and public speaking. Whether English is a non-primary language or you want to excel in your English and literature classes, I can help. Hi, I'm Ashlyn! I'm a fourth-year student majoring in Economics and Political Science with minors in Sociology and Philosophy. I have always been passionate about education and the transformative power it holds. Tutoring allows me to contribute to the academic growth of individuals, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals. I believe education is not just about acquiring knowledge but also about fostering critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love for learning. As a tutor, I aspire to inspire and empower my students to reach their full potential academically and beyond. I have one year of teaching experience in a classroom; I taught High School English and Math in Nepal where I was the primary teacher for classes of 20-25 students. Further, for the past four years, I have been private tutoring High School students online. I absolutely love the individual relationships I can form when tutoring one student at a time. I'm aware each student has varying academic goals and learning styles, so I tailor my teaching approach to fit the needs of each individual student. For each student, I curate a personalized curriculum to teach the material they need to know in a way that works for them. By creating a supportive and engaging environment, I aim to create a safe space for students to ask questions, explore concepts deeply, and develop a strong foundation in the subject matter. I'm excited to work with my students to reach their academic goals! Please feel free to message me for more details or with any questions.

Certified chemistry tutor with over 10 years of tutoring experience

Hey there! I'm an experienced chemistry educator with a real passion for teaching. I've got a BS Honors in Chemistry and have been helping students for over 10 years now. It's been an amazing journey! I started my teaching career as a private tutor, then appointed in a school as a science teacher, working with all kinds of students. Each one had their unique style of learning, and I loved tailoring my approach to suit their needs. Seeing them progress and gain confidence in tackling those tricky chemistry concepts was incredibly fulfilling. Of course, I didn't stop with just my degree. I've taken up various certifications in teaching methodologies and curriculum development. I believe in staying up-to-date with the latest in the field, so I can offer my students the best knowledge possible. When it comes to my teaching style, I've got three key principles: engagement, clarity, and application. First, engagement is everything! I don't want my classes to be boring lectures. Instead, I make things interactive and fun with multimedia resources, demos, and hands-on experiments. Learning should be exciting! Next up is clarity. Chemistry can be tough, but I break down complex ideas into manageable chunks. This way, my students can grasp the core principles without feeling overwhelmed. Regular assessments and open discussions help me clear up any confusion. Lastly, I believe in showing my students how chemistry connects with the real world. It's not just a bunch of theories; it's everywhere around us! By relating it to practical applications, I encourage my students to think critically and solve problems like real chemists. Teaching has been an incredible journey, and I'm thrilled to continue empowering the next generation of scientists. Chemistry is fascinating, and I want my students to love it as much as I do!

CUNY Brooklyn College

STEM Tutor/Teacher Specializing in Mechanical Physics

With some technical engineering experience, 5+ years as a classroom science teacher, and now 3+ years of STEAM tutoring, I believe that I’m now a well-rounded educator who can help anyone achieve their goals. Whether you need support with a highly-technical course or conceptual understandings more grounded in reality, problem sets or reports, if you’re an advanced learner or struggling with organization and foundational skills, I can meet you where you’re at and help you grow. At this point, I’ve seen just about every teaching method, word problem, diagram, symbolism, etc., and can easily adjust to what your class requires and/or what will help you specifically to wrap your head around the work. And, if we don’t find immediate success, I am persistent and will put in work outside of our sessions to ensure improvement. Perhaps one area that sets me apart as a tutor is my preparedness. While I certainly can give lessons on short notice and answer your questions on the fly, I also like to ensure that we're efficient with our time and that I don't create confusion by doing things too differently from your professor. For example, if the course is AP, IB, Regents, etc., I will review the symbols used and the grading policies beforehand - I've even looked over a few college syllabi for this reason. And if you can send me an assignment ahead of time, I will look it over and perhaps solve some problems ahead of time so that I have clear explanations ready and we don't waste time exploring dead ends. For regular clients, I'm also happy to communicate over messaging as often as you'd like. I will provide regular feedback on growth and needs in both technical and non-technical areas. And for quick questions, I'm happy to help without setting up a lesson and charging. I'm also fortunate to be quite flexible, so please don't hesitate to ask if you can push back a lesson or reschedule.
