Stony Brook University

Tutor with expertise in various content areas

Hi! My name is Sarah. I am a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Stony Brook University with my Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics/Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. I have been tutoring students both virtually and in person for 5 years now. I have experience tutoring in math, English, SAT English and math, and general homework help. I got 1420 on my SAT (730 on math and 690 on English), and I have multiple SAT prep books and resources to share. I have completed math courses including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Pre-Calc, AP Statistics, college Linear Algebra, and college Calc 1, 2, and 3. I am very flexible in my teaching style. If something isn't working for you, I have no problem adapting until we are successful. I like to incorporate a good balance of practice questions, reviewing strategies, and fun quiz games. I have an Apple Pencil, so it is easy to annotate questions and write on any materials that you upload photos of. I look forward to working with you!

University of Waterloo

Math and Physics tutor with experience in online instruction.

I am an undergraduate candidate at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. My major is in Physics with a focus on the theory of quantum information processing. Ever since, my highschool days, I have regularly volunteered for tuition services spanning levels of education from the primary to the secondary school level. In university, I have regularly administered tutorials and help sessions at the tutorial centers. While I enjoy teaching a range of subjects, my areas of interest and expertise are Mathematics and Physics with a focus on the development of foundational intuition required to adapt to the problems normally seen in these subjects. Mathematics and Physics might not be everyone's cup of tea but in my opinion, a fair shot at these subjects provides students with invaluable skills required for any sort of technical and analytical work they might be interested in the future. Hence, I am a firm proponent of developing a hands-on intuition with these subjects rather than focusing on memorization of problems.

Subjects: Advanced Physics (Special Relativity), Applied Mathematics, Calculus, Differential Equations, IB Mathematics, Linear Algebra, Physics, Physics (Newtonian Mechanics), Pre-Calculus, Quantum Mechanics, SAT II Physics, SAT Mathematics, Vector Calculus

UNAM

University Mathematics TA | Expert in Abstract Algebra, Analysis & Proof Structuring

Hi! I am a pure mathematics researcher and Teaching Assistant at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), specializing in Algebraic Geometry and Mathematical Analysis. I focus on helping undergraduate and early graduate students master advanced topics like Abstract Algebra, Linear Algebra, and Real/Complex Analysis. If you are struggling with structuring rigorous mathematical proofs, I can help you decode the logic. My teaching style is clean and intuitive; for example, I heavily utilize linear algebra tools to break down complex algebraic structures (like groups, rings, and modules) rather than relying on convoluted field theory jargon whenever possible. Whether you need help prepping for a brutal final exam, tackling heavy assignment sets, or simply want to learn how to write elegant proofs, I will guide you step-by-step.

Subjects: Abstract Algebra, Algebraic topology, Applied Mathematics, College Algebra, Complex analysis, Discrete Math, Finite Mathematics, Integral Calculus, Intermediate Algebra, Linear Algebra, Mathematics, Maths, Multivariable Calculus, Optimization / Mathematical Programming, Vector Calculus

Experienced Math Tutor for 10 years

It is my belief that something is not understood until it is fully and clearly explained. Every time I presented a lesson, I tried to present it in a way relatable to each individual student. My own understanding increased from helping to ease students of their confusions in Mathematical, Historical, or Scientific topics, to reading books and giving group lectures about them, my experiences as a tutor have increased my ability to explain and teach. Taking care of children has always been one of my major passions. Watching children grow, explore and learn has been a rewarding experience that excites me. Their imagination, innocence and creativity are highly enjoyable. Teaching them through art, reading, and outdoor observations offers them the knowledge that they may need in school and later life as they grow up. Every time I nurture a child's interests, I help him or her become a better, brighter individual who can become a successful adult. Patience. The most important criteria in being a tutor of any subject is patience. The students who I have taught have gotten at least one problem wrong in my sessions with them. I have never become upset with the student, since I am there to help them understand the lesson, not to encourage them to become more frustrated over not comprehending the content. I always just remain calm and never lose my temper. I give the student time to complete the problem and give him or her hints to help him or her remember a missing step.

Subjects: ACT Math, AP European History, Applied Mathematics, Competition Math, Discrete Math, Health and Medicine, IB Mathematics, Math, Physics (Fluid Mechanics), SAT, SAT II Literature, SAT II Mathematics Level 1, SAT II Mathematics Level 2, SAT Mathematics, elementary math
