I adjust the tempo and style according to where your math skills stand. What will we do? Let's set little goals, and step by step we will get you ready for whatever test you are trying to top-score. My favorite is to explain confusing concepts in a way that everyone can understand. Math makes sense, trust me :) So far, I haven't failed once in helping my students get the scores they want. If you're ready for a well-crafted plan under my supervision, you know what to do ;)

Hi everyone, thank you for visiting my page! I currently work as a lead instructor at Mathnasium in Washington, D.C., where I tutor students ages 6-16, in all levels of math, ranging from elementary to algebra 2/early pre-calculus work. I also have former experience leading and supervising middle-school aged boys at a summer camp in Maine, where I served as a cabin/recreational counselor. My repertoire of skills also extend into the English composition/reading realm, and I'd be happy to instruct your child in any level of composition/reading up to early high school years. I also offer SAT test prep help at a separate pricing, so please inquire further if you are interested in said service. As always, I am more than happy to discuss pricing to offer you the best value for your child's session. Feel free to contact me by email for further inquiries. Thank you for your time!

I am a 2004 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in philosophy & humanities. After graduation from college, I joined the United States Peace Corps and, for two years, lived in a small village in the sub-Saharan African country of Zambia. While there, I collaborated with Zambian colleagues at the grassroots level to increase rural awareness of preventive health measures to protect against malaria and other common diseases. Upon my return to the US from Africa, I began tutoring, and continued to do so as I worked my way through medical school. Subjects of expertise include standardized test prep, reading & writing, and math. My medical school experience forced me to learn techniques for efficient retention of large volumes of information. I, in turn, teach students these techniques, thus helping them retain what they have learned. I graduated from medical school in 2017 and continued tutoring, now with an additional focus on coaching. I believe this is what makes me unique as a tutor. I help students define goals, establish habits, and create systems that support good habits. We troubleshoot as difficulties maintaining habits arise, and modify our approach accordingly. I love helping students find their talents and translate them into career paths, including helping students find and apply for relevant programs of study, and finding professionals in those fields to advise and inspire. My medical knowledge, specifically my interest in mental health and how it contributes to academic & other success, also informs my work with students. I’ve successfully helped students with interventions like vitamin supplementation, dietary changes, and medication compliance for ADHD and other conditions, and more. I’ve consistently seen big improvements in students’ ability to focus, follow through, and in so doing, feel better about themselves. Please reach out if I can be of help to you or your student!

I’m Devin, and I’m here to boost your math scores! Inspired by the machinations of mad scientists in science fiction films and video games, I realized early on as a kid that I wanted to study science and math. A homeschooled child, I quickly took the reins to learn on my own and attended high school online through Florida virtual school. I self-studied for the PSAT exam, through which I won a National Merit Scholarship. A number of AP exams later, I attended New College of Florida, the honors college of Florida, where I worked as a teaching assistant for Genetics and General Chemistry. After earning my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, I dove back into test prep. With a strong GRE score, I was accepted to the Computational Biology PhD program at the University of California Berkeley. There, I quickly realized that a life in the lab wasn’t for me. Instead, I decided to use my talent in the test center and the classroom to help others achieve their own academic success. As a homeschooler in college, I quickly realized how the typical classroom experience can fail students. I struggled to grasp new concepts through my instructors’ lectures. As they spoke on and on in front of the class, I would often have to give up on understanding what they were talking about. It was only after a lot of homework and one-on-one meetings with my instructors that I was able to succeed in those classes. That experience informs my approach to tutoring. I’m not going to talk at you while trudging through a presentation. We’re going to work problems together. I’m here to support and guide you, not lecture you. When you run into trouble, I’m going to pinpoint your difficulty and show you how to overcome it. We’ll keep going until you can solve these problems on your own. If you need more practice after a session, I’ll direct you to plenty of extra problems to polish your skills. You’re going to have the confidence to handle whatever a class throws at you next. Let’s get started!
