After seven years of teaching test prep at all levels and three additional years teaching sixth grade math within New York's charter school system, I've decided I'd actually like to do what I'm best at: help people learn! While I'm more than happy to help you reach your goals on a standardized test, I don't want to have to use materials that I don't think are well suited to that test simply because they are the materials provided by the service I happen to work for. Typically, services that I have worked for have charged anything from $69-$189 per hour for test prep or even homework help, often sending in a tutor with less experience than myself (I know, I used to be that less experienced tutor). As I gain a client base and learn the ropes of providing my expertise without the support of a traditional tutoring service, I'm offering the same level of knowledge (and most likely more personality) for **less than half the price** of a traditional service. I must say, many students enjoy my approach because it makes the answer very apparent to them. My method is to break the problem down and solve parts of the problem. Then put these parts together like an easy four piece puzzle. I ask questions to check the understanding of the student so that I know where to start. This is because math often requires you to understand many small concepts in order to solve a problem. I have previously tutored students ranging in ages from late elementary to college. Most of my sessions have been one on one. With a mix of online and in-person depending on the student’s preferences. I always have enjoyed helping students and nothing compares to when a student has that ah ha moment. Lastly, I’m always open to suggestions or feedback from students or parents regarding my tutoring.
