I am an elementary education major with an emphasis on English and math.

I am a sophomore in college studying to be an elementary teacher. I have a focus on English, meaning if I am to focus on one subject it is English. I have taken multiple classes within the subject and thoroughly enjoy it. I am also taking a two-part class on how to teach math to K-8 students. I tutored my brothers and friends for 10 years now, ranging from K-12. I volunteered in an elementary school for 2 years, working with first graders and fourth graders. I also worked at a daycare this summer for 3 months, working with kids from 2 years old to 12 years old.

Passionate Math Tutor Looking to Help Students

I am a math tutor with experience teaching students between grades 1 and 12, with a focus in middle/elementary school math and algebra. I am a current college student studying education. When I was younger, I struggled with math, but with the right help I was able to succeed and now I even enjoy a subject I once hated. I want to help students to realize that math doesn’t have to be scary and to help them to understand math more intuitively.

I can teach mostly English based subjects despite being a biology major/anthropology minor!

In high school I did very well in English classes and I was in AP English Literature in my senior year of high school. I did fairly well in my college writing class in freshman year of college. I'm fluent in Spanish and made the top 5% in my college's Intermediate Spanish class

I love mathematics

As a middle school teacher, I had taught Algebra, Geometry, and other areas of mathematics. I also taught GED Math and SAT Math classes at a public college. All but one of my GED Math students passed the GED Math after completing an 8-week session (2 days/wk) and several of my SAT students had improved their SAT Math scores by as much as 200 points after completing a 6-week session (1 day/wk). I have given students tips on how to prep for tests, use TI calculators, and write perfect essays. It has always been my goal to make sure that my students were able to use what they learned to help themselves thrive at the next level.

Trouble with Algebra or Precalculus? I succeeded in math, and you will too!

I’m Devin, and I’m here to boost your math scores! Inspired by the machinations of mad scientists in science fiction films and video games, I realized early on as a kid that I wanted to study science and math. A homeschooled child, I quickly took the reins to learn on my own and attended high school online through Florida virtual school. I self-studied for the PSAT exam, through which I won a National Merit Scholarship. A number of AP exams later, I attended New College of Florida, the honors college of Florida, where I worked as a teaching assistant for Genetics and General Chemistry. After earning my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, I dove back into test prep. With a strong GRE score, I was accepted to the Computational Biology PhD program at the University of California Berkeley. There, I quickly realized that a life in the lab wasn’t for me. Instead, I decided to use my talent in the test center and the classroom to help others achieve their own academic success. As a homeschooler in college, I quickly realized how the typical classroom experience can fail students. I struggled to grasp new concepts through my instructors’ lectures. As they spoke on and on in front of the class, I would often have to give up on understanding what they were talking about. It was only after a lot of homework and one-on-one meetings with my instructors that I was able to succeed in those classes. That experience informs my approach to tutoring. I’m not going to talk at you while trudging through a presentation. We’re going to work problems together. I’m here to support and guide you, not lecture you. When you run into trouble, I’m going to pinpoint your difficulty and show you how to overcome it. We’ll keep going until you can solve these problems on your own. If you need more practice after a session, I’ll direct you to plenty of extra problems to polish your skills. You’re going to have the confidence to handle whatever a class throws at you next. Let’s get started!
