Hello! My name is Ms. Jane Elieff and I'm an experienced, patient, and passionate educator with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and nearly 12 years of tutoring and teaching experience. I have taught in Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade classrooms. Additionally, I have over 1,500 volunteer hours with children and over 300 hours in elementary college practicum experience. Combined, I've spent close to 18,000 hours teaching or tutoring children. I have extensive experience teaching all elementary foundational reading and math skills such as word recognition, fluency, comprehension, number sense, and number operations. In our one-on-one sessions, your child will receive private, individualized instruction that is based on their specific needs. Whether your child needs extra help grasping a skill, one-on-one help finishing assignments, or looking for an extra challenge, I am here to help! Additionally, I am very passionate about neurodivergent students. This passion is largely driven by my personal journey with ADHD. I have extensive teaching experience with many neurodivergent learners such as students with ADHD, ASD, and more. In addition, I have previously taught an online 1:1 class where I provided executive functioning coaching/mentoring for many students, all of whom were neurodivergent. My ultimate goal is to empower all students, both neurodivergent and non-neurodivergent, by helping them develop the skills and confidence they need to navigate their learning more effectively. I truly believe that every student has the potential to thrive, and I'm here to guide them along that journey! Whether you need a full content review, a brush-up, test prep or intensive help for closing learning gaps you’ve found the right tutor!

I am a 2004 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy with a Bachelor of Science in philosophy & humanities. After graduation from college, I joined the United States Peace Corps and, for two years, lived in a small village in the sub-Saharan African country of Zambia. While there, I collaborated with Zambian colleagues at the grassroots level to increase rural awareness of preventive health measures to protect against malaria and other common diseases. Upon my return to the US from Africa, I began tutoring, and continued to do so as I worked my way through medical school. Subjects of expertise include standardized test prep, reading & writing, and math. My medical school experience forced me to learn techniques for efficient retention of large volumes of information. I, in turn, teach students these techniques, thus helping them retain what they have learned. I graduated from medical school in 2017 and continued tutoring, now with an additional focus on coaching. I believe this is what makes me unique as a tutor. I help students define goals, establish habits, and create systems that support good habits. We troubleshoot as difficulties maintaining habits arise, and modify our approach accordingly. I love helping students find their talents and translate them into career paths, including helping students find and apply for relevant programs of study, and finding professionals in those fields to advise and inspire. My medical knowledge, specifically my interest in mental health and how it contributes to academic & other success, also informs my work with students. I’ve successfully helped students with interventions like vitamin supplementation, dietary changes, and medication compliance for ADHD and other conditions, and more. I’ve consistently seen big improvements in students’ ability to focus, follow through, and in so doing, feel better about themselves. Please reach out if I can be of help to you or your student!

Tell me what your goals are, and I will show you how to make them happen! I've worked in the public schools teaching 7th to 12th grade students for 4 years. After that I worked 3 years in Adult Basic Education, helping to prepare students for the GED test. For the past 6 months I have been tutoring privately in ELA, Math, and LSAT test prep. I'm experienced with many different ages, subjects, and backgrounds, including incarcerated adult students. My own educational background is in Philosophy. I possess a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Florida. In 2016, I graduated from San Diego State University's Teacher Credential Program with a subject matter certification in English and Social Studies. In addition, I have extensive training in developmental learning theories specific to one-on-one tutoring. Depending on the needs of the student, I will come prepared with a structured lesson plan, always with the expectation that plans are flexible. The student is free to bring to the lesson any work that they have questions with. When working with younger students, I will use different techniques to keep them engaged, including allowing them to get up and work out problems on the white board. Ideally, the best way to teach something is to prove to the student that it is true. So for geometry concepts, I will rely on visual and tactile demonstrations wherever possible, including by bringing in models of cylinders and cones. Some of the most common lessons I teach are writing lessons on how to 'show, not tell' and reading lessons to guide students through advanced texts such as Shakespeare. My lessons will conclude with homework assignments, either vocabulary words or practice problems to encourage independent practice. Students can always review a lesson summary I provide after each lesson. I can provide online sessions anywhere in the world. But also, if you are looking for an in person session in the San Diego county area, I am your guy.
