I am a passionate logophile, who loves nothing better than to discuss and teach grammar and literature with people. Learning parts of speech, sentence structure, and composition techniques doesn't have to be a stressful undertaking! I can remove the panic and frustration from your battle with words and turn your studies into an interesting, if not fascinating journey of discovering the power of writing. When I'm not scribbling down story ideas or reading countless books, I enjoy playing mandolin or hanging out with my Muscovy ducks. I enjoy teaching grammar, English, ESL, literature, as well as other related subjects for grades K-12. PLEASE NO ADULT OR COLLEGE STUDENTS. Please note! I will not accept requests for assignment help where a student asks me to write his or her entire essay, response to literature, or any other written work. I will write alongside or do revision/ final draft work on students' projects. However, to give a pupil a finished product that came 100% from my pen only is professionally and ethically wrong in my viewpoint. I am a teacher and peer reviewer, not a writer for hire or an accomplice to plagiarism. Thanks!

Aloha, friend! My name is Lucas Jarrett, and I’m an online tutor! If I had to characterize my approach to helping people learn in simple terms, I would say that I believe education is a matter of teaching adaptability. The ability to adapt, or the capacity to change, is the fundamental skill of learning all things. We must always be prepared to adopt new ways of being. When we study life, we study the infinite; and when we study the infinite, our mindsets must be similar, or else we will not see everything that we could have seen. To realize that learning is the art of changing is to begin learning everything more easily. My primary goal is to help my students see and apply this awareness when studying anything they hope to do well. I have professional experience teaching many subjects, including arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, philosophy, biology, history, psychology, music, billiards, writing, research, literature, English, Java, Python, HTML, CSS, SQL, and more. Furthermore, I’m happy to offer insight into cognitive habits that often bring academic trouble, such as perfectionism, motivation, inattention, depression, and anxiety. I do not limit my educational strategies to any single methodology; I believe that every individual has a unique path in life, and I therefore work to be responsive to the specific, immediate needs of my students. Context is everything. If I'm trying to help a student become a better reader and writer, I may recommend that we explore good literature together; if I am helping someone prepare for a test in geometry, good practice problems and instructional resources will likely be part of the process. I tutor many subjects not listed here, so feel free to ask about anything! If I know how to help in a reasonable timeframe, I will help! 🙂 Note: I offer discounts to people who have financial need or pay in bulk. Please feel free to contact me directly to discuss options if my posted rate is beyond your budget!

Tell me what your goals are, and I will show you how to make them happen! I've worked in the public schools teaching 7th to 12th grade students for 4 years. After that I worked 3 years in Adult Basic Education, helping to prepare students for the GED test. For the past 6 months I have been tutoring privately in ELA, Math, and LSAT test prep. I'm experienced with many different ages, subjects, and backgrounds, including incarcerated adult students. My own educational background is in Philosophy. I possess a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Central Florida. In 2016, I graduated from San Diego State University's Teacher Credential Program with a subject matter certification in English and Social Studies. In addition, I have extensive training in developmental learning theories specific to one-on-one tutoring. Depending on the needs of the student, I will come prepared with a structured lesson plan, always with the expectation that plans are flexible. The student is free to bring to the lesson any work that they have questions with. When working with younger students, I will use different techniques to keep them engaged, including allowing them to get up and work out problems on the white board. Ideally, the best way to teach something is to prove to the student that it is true. So for geometry concepts, I will rely on visual and tactile demonstrations wherever possible, including by bringing in models of cylinders and cones. Some of the most common lessons I teach are writing lessons on how to 'show, not tell' and reading lessons to guide students through advanced texts such as Shakespeare. My lessons will conclude with homework assignments, either vocabulary words or practice problems to encourage independent practice. Students can always review a lesson summary I provide after each lesson. I can provide online sessions anywhere in the world. But also, if you are looking for an in person session in the San Diego county area, I am your guy.
