I’m a patient and dedicated tutor who loves helping students turn math struggles into successes. Whether your child has learning differences or simply needs a steady, experienced guide who connects well with young people, I’d be honored to help them build confidence and skill in math. Many of my students stay with me from middle school through high school, and I treasure those long-term relationships — watching their abilities, independence, and problem-solving confidence grow over time. My love for teaching began in Baltimore, volunteering as a math and reading tutor for inner-city youth — a rewarding challenge that sharpened my ability to spot learning gaps and adapt lessons creatively. Since then, I’ve logged over 10,000 hours of tutoring, using platforms such as Wyzant and Varsity Tutors, and in-person with more than 100 local students. Before becoming a full-time tutor, I spent nearly 20 years as a molecular biology and genetics researcher at Johns Hopkins Medical School and Duke Medical Center, co-authoring articles in top scientific journals. My background in laboratory research demanded precision, logical problem-solving, and clear communication — the same skills essential for mastering mathematics. I help students see that math is more than numbers; it’s a powerful tool used to solve real-world problems in science, technology, and beyond. I bring this mindset to every lesson, helping students build both skill and real-world appreciation for math.

William Paterson University
I earned a bachelor’s degree in history from William Paterson University, where my studies focused heavily on research, analysis, and clear written communication. Through my coursework, I developed the ability to break down complex material and explain it in a clear, structured way. This academic background helps me guide students through difficult concepts and encourages them to think critically about the subjects they are studying rather than simply memorizing information. For the past three years, I have worked as a tutor through Lessonpal, where I have provided individualized one-on-one instruction. During this time, I have worked with students across a wide range of ages and skill levels, including younger students, high school students, and adult learners. Because all of my sessions are conducted individually, I have significant experience tailoring lessons to each student’s pace, goals, and learning style while helping them build confidence in the material. My tutoring approach is largely student-guided. I believe students learn best when they are actively involved in the process, so I encourage them to help shape the direction of each session while I serve as a mentor who clarifies difficult concepts and reinforces important foundations. This method allows students to take ownership of their learning while still receiving structured guidance. I am comfortable tutoring learners at any grade level and focus on creating a supportive environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions and steadily improve their understanding.

Swarthmore College, University of California, San Francisco
I earned my Ph.D. at the University of California, San Francisco in the area of Chemistry and Chemical Biology. According to the US News & World Report, UCSF consistently ranks among the top ten schools for graduate study in the area of Biochemistry / Biophysics / Structural Biology. I earned my B.A. from Swarthmore College in Chemistry. I am a published scientific author. My research interests focus on examining the structural biology of membrane proteins using X-ray crystallography. I have extensive experience tutoring chemistry courses at the college and graduate level, and am open to tutoring middle and high school students. I have experience as a teaching assistant for General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry courses. This involved leading recitation courses for undergraduate and professional students, and also assisting with teaching undergraduate laboratory sections. I have experience with proctoring and grading exams, which is a definite advantage when tutoring because I know how university exams are structured and can give tips on how to prepare for exams. Students have a variety of career goals when studying chemistry, and I work hard to meet their needs when I am tutoring. Some students are preparing for medical school and need to pass challenging chemistry courses to do so. Others have the goal of moving on to nursing or pharmacy school. Some of my students aim for careers or higher education in chemistry. Understanding the principles of chemistry serves as a stepping stone that lets them accomplish their career goals.

I have had about two years of experience in tutoring kids of many grade levels at local after-school programs. Although I enjoy various school subjects, math is my favorite because of my love of numbers. Moreover, I get a thrill out of applying problems involving math and numbers to the real world and students' real-life experiences. For example, I figured that several middle school students at one of the organizations I worked for, the Japanese Community Youth Council, enjoyed playing video games, so I occasionally incorporated those into my demonstrations and examples. Additionally, I often worked with students in groups of two to four, and this encouraged collaboration among them. Consequently, the students’ grades increased by at least 25%. Furthermore, towards the close of the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, the organization rewarded me for my contributions with certificates of recognition. At another program, 826 Valencia, I tutored kids ages 6-16 during the fall 2015 semester, providing another opportunity to engage and collaborate with students. For example, one student needed help with problems related to linear equations. The assignment contained the term “Figure 0”, the latter of which seemed foreign to me. But after I recalled terminology in my high school math classes, both of us were able to determine that Figure 0 was its y-intercept. Overall, I felt proud that I could help a student simplify a challenging concept.

Mathematics doesn’t have to feel confusing, stressful, or overwhelming and you don’t have to figure it out alone. I work with students from K–12, high school, and college levels, helping them not only improve their grades but actually understand math in a clear and structured way. Whether you're preparing for school exams, assignments, or competitive tests like SAT, ACT, GCSE, or A-Level, I tailor every lesson to your exact needs. Many of my students come to me feeling stuck unable to follow fast classroom teaching, struggling with concepts like algebra, calculus, or problem-solving, or losing confidence in their abilities. My approach is different. I focus on: ✔ Breaking down complex concepts into simple, step-by-step explanations ✔ Building strong fundamentals so problems become easier over time ✔ Helping with homework, assignments, and exam preparation ✔ Improving speed, accuracy, and confidence ✔ Creating a comfortable space where you can ask anything without hesitation I understand that every student learns differently. That’s why I adapt my teaching style whether you need slow, detailed guidance or fast-paced problem solving for competitive exams. Over time, my students don’t just improve their scores they start to feel confident, independent, and even enjoy solving math problems. If you're looking for a tutor who is patient, clear, and fully focused on your success, I’d be happy to work with you. Let’s make math easier and even enjoyable for you.

Hello, my name is Bianca and I live in America but I travel to and from the United Kingdom frequently. I have just recently finished my Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Mathematics. I tutor as a way to serve my community and improve my teaching skills. I love tutoring because I can directly connect with students and leave life-long lasting impressions to better help them in the future. Tutoring is my hobby but teaching is my passion. I want to continue tutoring for a few more years because the end result is the both of us. I have 5+ years of informal teaching but have been formally tutoring for the last 2 years. I have host study sessions multiple times a week every summer to help people of all ages in multiple subjects of math. 2 years ago I was hired at my old high school to help with after tutoring and recently have started working in the math lab a few days a week at my university. I allow my students to take the lead in my teaching approach, to stimulate critical thinking skills and improve confidence. Book a trial lesson so we can get to know each other. Let me know your goals and we can work out a game plan to make sure you achieve those goals. I look forward to the opportunity to help you get a better understanding of mathematics.

I always enjoy tutoring. I would tutor friends or community members in need for free under my own time. I can teach several areas in elementary, middle school and high school levels, including math and sciences. I am a second year undergraduate student at the university of Windsor, double majoring in psychology and disability studies. I have always strived for excellence and I have a 78.7 GPA. I have several learning limitations myself so I can understand the struggles of school for all children especially ones like me with learning limitations, but I can motivate and teach in a way the student will best understand and together we can communicate and achieve the goals the student set out for! I am also great at organizing and breaking down your work to make it look not as stressful, especially when studying for test, it can be overwhelming and I am here to help! Do not hesitate to reach out if you're in need of a tutor - I would be happy to arrange a free consult to hear about where you are in your studies, and discuss how I can help you achieve the best grades possible! Please feel free to reach out if you have questions about my experience, subjects of expertise or if you have an inquire about a subject I have not listed that I can teach, as I am skilled in several more subjects than those listed!
