I’m a patient and dedicated tutor who loves helping students turn math struggles into successes. Whether your child has learning differences or simply needs a steady, experienced guide who connects well with young people, I’d be honored to help them build confidence and skill in math. Many of my students stay with me from middle school through high school, and I treasure those long-term relationships — watching their abilities, independence, and problem-solving confidence grow over time. My love for teaching began in Baltimore, volunteering as a math and reading tutor for inner-city youth — a rewarding challenge that sharpened my ability to spot learning gaps and adapt lessons creatively. Since then, I’ve logged over 10,000 hours of tutoring, using platforms such as Wyzant and Varsity Tutors, and in-person with more than 100 local students. Before becoming a full-time tutor, I spent nearly 20 years as a molecular biology and genetics researcher at Johns Hopkins Medical School and Duke Medical Center, co-authoring articles in top scientific journals. My background in laboratory research demanded precision, logical problem-solving, and clear communication — the same skills essential for mastering mathematics. I help students see that math is more than numbers; it’s a powerful tool used to solve real-world problems in science, technology, and beyond. I bring this mindset to every lesson, helping students build both skill and real-world appreciation for math.

I have had about two years of experience in tutoring kids of many grade levels at local after-school programs. Although I enjoy various school subjects, math is my favorite because of my love of numbers. Moreover, I get a thrill out of applying problems involving math and numbers to the real world and students' real-life experiences. For example, I figured that several middle school students at one of the organizations I worked for, the Japanese Community Youth Council, enjoyed playing video games, so I occasionally incorporated those into my demonstrations and examples. Additionally, I often worked with students in groups of two to four, and this encouraged collaboration among them. Consequently, the students’ grades increased by at least 25%. Furthermore, towards the close of the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, the organization rewarded me for my contributions with certificates of recognition. At another program, 826 Valencia, I tutored kids ages 6-16 during the fall 2015 semester, providing another opportunity to engage and collaborate with students. For example, one student needed help with problems related to linear equations. The assignment contained the term “Figure 0”, the latter of which seemed foreign to me. But after I recalled terminology in my high school math classes, both of us were able to determine that Figure 0 was its y-intercept. Overall, I felt proud that I could help a student simplify a challenging concept.

Hello, my name is Bianca and I live in America but I travel to and from the United Kingdom frequently. I have just recently finished my Bachelor's degree in Biology with a minor in Mathematics. I tutor as a way to serve my community and improve my teaching skills. I love tutoring because I can directly connect with students and leave life-long lasting impressions to better help them in the future. Tutoring is my hobby but teaching is my passion. I want to continue tutoring for a few more years because the end result is the both of us. I have 5+ years of informal teaching but have been formally tutoring for the last 2 years. I have host study sessions multiple times a week every summer to help people of all ages in multiple subjects of math. 2 years ago I was hired at my old high school to help with after tutoring and recently have started working in the math lab a few days a week at my university. I allow my students to take the lead in my teaching approach, to stimulate critical thinking skills and improve confidence. Book a trial lesson so we can get to know each other. Let me know your goals and we can work out a game plan to make sure you achieve those goals. I look forward to the opportunity to help you get a better understanding of mathematics.

I always enjoy tutoring. I would tutor friends or community members in need for free under my own time. I can teach several areas in elementary, middle school and high school levels, including math and sciences. I am a second year undergraduate student at the university of Windsor, double majoring in psychology and disability studies. I have always strived for excellence and I have a 78.7 GPA. I have several learning limitations myself so I can understand the struggles of school for all children especially ones like me with learning limitations, but I can motivate and teach in a way the student will best understand and together we can communicate and achieve the goals the student set out for! I am also great at organizing and breaking down your work to make it look not as stressful, especially when studying for test, it can be overwhelming and I am here to help! Do not hesitate to reach out if you're in need of a tutor - I would be happy to arrange a free consult to hear about where you are in your studies, and discuss how I can help you achieve the best grades possible! Please feel free to reach out if you have questions about my experience, subjects of expertise or if you have an inquire about a subject I have not listed that I can teach, as I am skilled in several more subjects than those listed!

I’m A.J.! I am a senior in chemical engineering at the University of Kansas and I will be graduating spring 2025. In addition, I have taken and excelled in college classes like calculus, organic chemistry, and fluid mechanics to name a few. In high school, I graduated with sigma cum Laude honors and had a 3.9 GPA on a 4.0 scale. I graduated in the top 10% of my class. Also, I scored 5’s on my AP calc AB, AP micro, and AP macro exams. I have had years of previous tutoring experience on tutor.com. On that platform I tutored mainly algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus. My approach to tutoring is simple and easy. I must say, many students enjoy my approach because it makes the answer very apparent to them. My method is to break the problem down and solve parts of the problem. Then put these parts together like an easy four piece puzzle. I ask questions to check the understanding of the student so that I know where to start. This is because math often requires you to understand many small concepts in order to solve a problem. I have previously tutored students ranging in ages from late elementary to college. Most of my sessions have been one on one. With a mix of online and in-person depending on the student’s preferences. I always have enjoyed helping students and nothing compares to when a student has that ah ha moment. Lastly, I’m always open to suggestions or feedback from students or parents regarding my tutoring.

I have been instructing for years and I enjoy teaching everything from martial arts to calculus. I am happy to help you through any elementary, middle, or high school course. I have read and studied textbooks that are horrible at explaining things. I had to work hard to learn a lot of lessons. But now, you can reap the benefits of my experience by being my tutee! I am different than other tutors (or textbooks for that matter) because of my teaching method. I break concepts down in a way that are understandable and repeatable. Here's the process: 1. I explain what we're doing. This sounds simple, but textbooks and tutors alike forget to leave it out. If we are studying Pythagorean Theorem, I will start out by stating what we are doing clearly and concisely. 2. I demonstrate what we're doing. To continue with the Pythagorean Theorem example, I would present a problem where this concept should be used, and I will complete the problem in full so you, the student, can see the full answer. 3. We will do problems together. Depending on the complexity and length of the problems in question, we will do singular or multiple questions at a high-, mid-, and low-level of explanation for each. 4. You will repeat a few of the questions that use the particular concept we are studying. I will be there to help you along if you get stuck. 5. Of course you will be asking questions along the way, but now, at the end, you can ask any final ones.
