Calculus, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math, Computer Science Tutor — PhD Candidate, MSc Math

Struggling with first-year calculus or linear algebra? The pace can be brutal and I know office hours are packed. I've spent nearly a decade marking and teaching exactly the assignments you're stuck on, so I know where marks actually get lost and where roadblocks usually happen. I've also coached students through Olympiad problem sets, which is mostly about building intuition rather than memorizing steps, and that is my goal whenever I teach. I'm currently a Robotics PhD candidate at York University with a MSc in Applied Mathematics and a Bachelor's in Computer Science (Minor in Math) from TMU. I'm also a TA at York University currently. The core I cover: - Calculus I/II - Linear algebra - Differential equations - Probability & statistics - Discrete Mathematics - General math for CS and engineering students - Functions Grade 11 - Advanced Functions Grade 12 - Calculus and Vectors Grade 12 - Physics Grade 9-12 And I can also help with: - Coding: Java, Python, C++ - Computer Vision How it works: Send me the problem set or topic ahead of time, we work through it live with a shared whiteboard, and you leave with a written summary of what we covered. First 15 minutes free so we can check the fit.

Sujets: C++, Calculus, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Calculus and Vectors MCV4U, Ontario Curriculum, Coding, Computer Vision, Discrete Math, Integral Calculus, Java, Linear Algebra, Multivariable Calculus, Object Oriented Programming, Pre-Calculus, Python, Vector Calculus

University of California, Berkeley

Math/Stats educator for 6+ yrs, former UC Berkeley instructor

Rather than a “top-down” approach delivering material for students to passively absorb, my tutoring focuses on your active processes as a learner constructing knowledge and making meaning of the material for yourself. I seek to learn about your background knowledge and skills, determine what your current needs are, then work beside you to build and refine conceptual frameworks and problem-solving strategies for you to find success on your own terms. Besides being a content expert in math and statistics, I am a research-driven learning specialist dedicated to helping you cultivate effective learning strategies along all stages of your journey as a scholar. My goal is not just to address your current questions and concerns, but also to help you master the tools needed to confidently construct the answers for yourself both now and beyond. Within my experiences teaching, tutoring, and training undergraduate tutors at UC Berkeley, I developed a nuanced, research-driven understanding of the factors that both enable and inhibit students in developing mastery of their course material. I’ve tutored and supported a wide range of math and stats courses, and identified what works best to meet the evolving learning needs throughout your academic journey, across both traditional and online learning environments.

From “I Don’t Get It” to “Wait… That Makes Sense.” | Math and Physics Without Panic or Blind Memorization

Hello, I’m Gamal. “Why do I even need algebra?” “Why should I learn calculus?” “Where did this equation come from?” “How do I apply it?” “Does this even make sense?” If you’ve ever had these thoughts, you’re not alone. These are exactly the questions we work on. Mathematics shouldn’t be a collection of formulas you memorize without understanding. You should know where an equation comes from, what it means, why it works, and when to apply it. It should make sense. You’ll learn with an Associate Professor and PhD in Astrophysics with extensive teaching experience at school and university levels. I teach IB, IGCSE, A-level, AP, and university mathematics for science and engineering. My approach is simple: understand first, then practise. We build the foundations you need, connect new ideas, and work through problems step by step. When a formula appears out of nowhere, we look at where it comes from. When you know a method but don’t know when to use it, we practise recognizing the problem and choosing the right approach. We don’t just ask, “How do I solve this?” We also ask, “Why does this work?” and “What does this tell me?” For exam preparation, we use your course material and past papers to develop your ability to approach unfamiliar questions, choose effective methods, communicate your reasoning clearly, and avoid mistakes that cost marks. The goal isn’t to make you dependent on a tutor. It’s to help you reach the point where you see a difficult question and think: “I know how to start this.” And eventually: “Wait… this actually makes sense.” I won’t do your homework for you or give you answers. Send questions at least two days before the lesson so we can identify the difficulty, understand the method, and practise with similar problems. For exam preparation, please contact me well in advance. Strong results come from understanding and consistent practice—not last-minute revision. Bring me the topic that doesn’t make sense yet. Let’s make it make sense.

University of Alberta

Professional Math Tutor for 8 Years and BEd Student

I am currently a second-year student at the University of Alberta, pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree with a major in Mathematics. My goal is to teach math at the high school or university level, combining my passion for education with a commitment to helping students master mathematical concepts in an increasingly complex world. Over the past seven years, I’ve tutored students privately and have also gained experience teaching in a group, classroom-like setting for over a year. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of guiding students from failing to passing within weeks, proving that with the right mindset, focus, and determination, any student can achieve their goals—whether in math or beyond. I tutor a wide range of topics, including Elementary Math, Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I & II, Multivariable Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, and more. I love math because it builds a foundation of problem-solving skills and resilience. Math teaches us there’s often more than one way to arrive at the correct answer and reinforces the importance of persistence and creative thinking. It also instills confidence through its inherent ability to verify and cross-check solutions, providing tangible evidence of success. Outside of math, I enjoy spending time with close friends and loved ones, playing chess, and watching movies. I am enthusiastic, patient, and deeply committed to bringing out the best in every student, ensuring they not only succeed academically but also grow as confident, capable individuals.
