Nilou H.

University of Toronto

From high school STEM to research labs | U of T PhD tutor & mentor

I'm Nilou. I did my PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Toronto, with my research based at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. Before that I did my bachelor's and master's in Electrical & Computer Engineering. I tutor high-school and university math, physics, and statistics, plus engineering coursework, signals and systems, MATLAB, Python, and intro machine learning and data analysis. I also help with GRE quant, research, and study skills. Whether you're in Grade 10 or halfway through a degree, I explain hard ideas in plain language and start from wherever you are. I don't rush, and I won't make you feel behind. Almost anything clicks with the right example and a bit of patience. Finding that example for you is my job. I also mentor, and that part matters to me just as much. My path wasn't a straight line. I've worked in demanding places like U of T and Holland Bloorview, and I know what it feels like to walk in sure that everyone else is smarter than you. I can help with the things nobody teaches you: how to study when the pace picks up, how to talk to professors and supervisors, how to read a research paper, how to present your work, and how to figure out what you actually want to do with STEM. If you're curious, ambitious, or just need someone in your corner, come talk to me. Sessions are online and flexible. Tell me what you're working on and where you want to go, and we'll take it from there.

University of Alberta

Professional Math Tutor for 8 Years and BEd Student

I am currently a second-year student at the University of Alberta, pursuing a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) degree with a major in Mathematics. My goal is to teach math at the high school or university level, combining my passion for education with a commitment to helping students master mathematical concepts in an increasingly complex world. Over the past seven years, I’ve tutored students privately and have also gained experience teaching in a group, classroom-like setting for over a year. During this time, I’ve had the privilege of guiding students from failing to passing within weeks, proving that with the right mindset, focus, and determination, any student can achieve their goals—whether in math or beyond. I tutor a wide range of topics, including Elementary Math, Middle School Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus I & II, Multivariable Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, and more. I love math because it builds a foundation of problem-solving skills and resilience. Math teaches us there’s often more than one way to arrive at the correct answer and reinforces the importance of persistence and creative thinking. It also instills confidence through its inherent ability to verify and cross-check solutions, providing tangible evidence of success. Outside of math, I enjoy spending time with close friends and loved ones, playing chess, and watching movies. I am enthusiastic, patient, and deeply committed to bringing out the best in every student, ensuring they not only succeed academically but also grow as confident, capable individuals.

Expert Math, Statistics, Physics & Chemistry Tutor | 8+ Years Experience I 5 star rating on Superprof

I hold a Master’s degree from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and have a strong academic background in STEM, with over 8 years of tutoring and teaching experience. I specialize in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Statistics, and have worked with high school and university students at a wide range of levels. Over the years, I have helped students prepare for exams, work through assignments, strengthen their foundations, and develop effective problem-solving skills. I focus on making challenging concepts clear and approachable by breaking them down into simple, manageable steps. My teaching approach is highly personalized. I adapt each lesson to the student’s individual learning style, goals, and level of understanding. Rather than simply providing answers, I focus on explaining the reasoning behind each concept so that students develop the confidence and skills to solve problems independently. I have also built an established tutoring track record on Superprof, with reviews from students I have worked with over the years. I strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through challenging material. Whether you are preparing for an important exam, struggling with a particular topic, or looking to strengthen your STEM foundation, I would be happy to help you reach your academic goals.

McMaster University

Math, Physics, Circuits, Signals, Electronics & More | 7+ Years Experience in Teaching | Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McMaster University

About me: I hold a Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Electrical & Computer Engineering from McMaster University, where my research focused on optical wireless communications. I have 7+ years of teaching experience as a TA at both McMaster and the University of Tehran, and I have tutored 130+ students across +1100 hours throughout Canada and the US. I know firsthand how difficult ECE and math courses can be — and I know exactly where students get stuck. My sessions focus on building real understanding, not just getting through the homework. I explain the "why" behind the math, work through your actual course material, and send you session notes afterward so nothing gets lost. Courses I Can Help With: ● Electrical Engineering: Signals & Systems, Electrical Circuits, Circuits & Systems, Electronics I, Communication Systems, Digital Communications, Digital Signal Processing (DSP) ● University Math: Calculus I-IV, Differential Equations, Probability & Statistics, Linear Algebra ● High School: Functions, Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, Physics 11 & 12, BC Pre Calculus 11 & 12 ● Programming: MATLAB About the lessons: Every session is built around your course — your textbook, your professor's slides, your upcoming exam. I don't use generic problem sets; I work through what you're actually struggling with right now. Here's what a typical session looks like: we start by identifying exactly where you're stuck, I walk you through the concept from first principles until it clicks, then we practice with exam-style problems until you can do it on your own. I record sessions on request and send typed notes after each lesson. I'm available for one-time exam prep sessions as well as ongoing weekly tutoring. Most students see a noticeable improvement within 2–3 sessions. Reach out to confirm availability — I typically respond within an hour. Please note that the listed price reflects the base rate. Hourly rates may increase depending on the course.

Professor & Ph.D. with 23+ Years of Experience | Making Tough Topics Easy

Having taught for over two decades in the academic environment, I know exactly where students get stuck and how to help them break through. I do online, one-on-one tutoring because I love giving students the individual attention they need to achieve their goals. 🤖 Why Choose a Professor Over AI? Anyone can look up a formula or AI-generate code. But AI cannot teach you how to think under pressure during an exam. Having years of teaching experience, I bridge the gap that technology leaves behind: • Real-World Exam Strategy: I teach you how to analyze complex problems so you know exactly where to start. • Personalized Feedback: I pinpoint your unique blind spots and correct your approach in real-time. • Academic Mentorship: I provide the structure, accountability, and confidence you need to master advanced topics and earn top grades. 🎓 Subjects & Levels I Teach: • ADVANCED & AP/IB PHYSICS: AP Physics, AP Physics C Mechanics, Honors Physics, IB Physics, Physics (Newtonian Mechanics), Physics (Electricity & Magnetism), Physics (Fluid Mechanics, Heat Transfer, Thermodynamics, Waves & Optics). • UNIVERSITY & SPECIALIZED PHYSICS: Advanced Physics (Special Relativity), Computational Physics, Ultrasound Physics. • MATHEMATICS: Calculus, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Linear Programming. • COMPUTER SCIENCE & ENGINEERING: Python, C++, Assembly, Data Structures & Algorithms, Computer Architecture, Analog & Digital Electronics, Robotics. *Support for AP/IB Exam Prep, Homeworks, Courses, Research Guidance.* 🚀 My Teaching Style: We don't just memorize formulas. By relying on your natural curiosity, we venture through the toughest topics together, breaking down complex academic concepts into simple, digestible steps. Whether you are struggling to pass or aiming for an A+, we will design a personalized roadmap for your success. ✨ Ready to start?
