I am a fully qualified Pharmacist and hold an MA in International Relations from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, with a focus on Security and Diplomacy. Have been a researcher at the Mitvim Institute for Regional Foreign Policies since 2015. I hold a second master's degree, Executive MSc studies from the LSE, in International Strategy and Diplomacy. During my studies, I served as the Head of the Foreign Policy Committee in the LSE Policy Society. In 2014-15, I took a key role in facilitating the 'Ridgefield Group' which wrote and published the vision document of a shared society model in Israel, an initiative of the Fletcher School of Diplomacy at Tufts University. Hello, my name is Elifsu. I am from Istanbul, Turkey but I am currently living in St. Andrews, UK. In the last 4 years, I lived in Toronto, Paris, and in the South of France at different boarding schools. I did my IB diploma at Sainte Victoire International School (SVIS). I took Chemistry HL and got a 7 in Paper 2 and an overall 6. I passed my IB examinations in May 2022 and I am currently a first year (undergraduate) biochemistry student at the University of St. Andrews. Throughout high school, I volunteered to tutor my friends, other high schoolers for IGCSEs and IB. As I I’ve been to different international schools, I have a good understanding of different curricula such as American Diploma, OSSD, A-Levels and more, however I am most comfortable with IB. I love tutoring and helping others understand chemistry, as not too long ago, I was in the sme situation as my students. I love to encourage my students to achieve the best version of themselves, which is why in the first lesson I really want to hear about the student’s expectations. And what the “best version” or “best grade” means for them. As a Chemistry HL tutor, who has been through the IB diploma just months ago, I can also provide tailored details on what the IB examiners want in the exams and help with the IA. I’m Devin, and I’m here to boost your math scores! Inspired by the machinations of mad scientists in science fiction films and video games, I realized early on as a kid that I wanted to study science and math. A homeschooled child, I quickly took the reins to learn on my own and attended high school online through Florida virtual school. I self-studied for the PSAT exam, through which I won a National Merit Scholarship. A number of AP exams later, I attended New College of Florida, the honors college of Florida, where I worked as a teaching assistant for Genetics and General Chemistry. After earning my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, I dove back into test prep. With a strong GRE score, I was accepted to the Computational Biology PhD program at the University of California Berkeley. There, I quickly realized that a life in the lab wasn’t for me. Instead, I decided to use my talent in the test center and the classroom to help others achieve their own academic success. As a homeschooler in college, I quickly realized how the typical classroom experience can fail students. I struggled to grasp new concepts through my instructors’ lectures. As they spoke on and on in front of the class, I would often have to give up on understanding what they were talking about. It was only after a lot of homework and one-on-one meetings with my instructors that I was able to succeed in those classes. That experience informs my approach to tutoring. I’m not going to talk at you while trudging through a presentation. We’re going to work problems together. I’m here to support and guide you, not lecture you. When you run into trouble, I’m going to pinpoint your difficulty and show you how to overcome it. We’ll keep going until you can solve these problems on your own. If you need more practice after a session, I’ll direct you to plenty of extra problems to polish your skills. You’re going to have the confidence to handle whatever a class throws at you next.
