As a programmer with a background in mathematics, as well as a writer, I am constantly on the lookout for opportunities to share my skills in any areas that pertain to my aspirations. For that reason, I have been successfully tutoring students of all ages over the course of the past 8 years. My experience helping students achieve proficiency in mathematics began 9 years ago at a Kumon center. During this time, I frequently assisted students in completing their assignments accurately and quickly. While the subject matter itself ranged from arithmetic to Calculus, one thing that remained consistent is the core of my approach: to help students apply their existing knowledge and skills in solving new problems. Since graduating high school and moving through college, I have moved toward private meetings with regular students. The most important aspect of maintaining a successful relationship with a student is consistency in how I approach our lessons. To this end, I've successfully guided students through curricula ranging from elementary to early college level. I have encountered many different learning styles and personalities, and I find it rewarding to get to know my students on a personal level and ensure their success in the process. One of my skills that i've developed over the many years as a math educator is being able to diagnose the underlying problem by asking a few simple questions. Once it is clear what you are misunderstanding, I will provide a set of problems and questions which are designed meticulously to bring you from your level to the level you want to be. I like to remind my students that they are smart and creative and they can become better at math just like any other activity or sport; through practice. In this case, guided practice. I will be a coach, a teacher, a tutor, and at times perhaps a peer since my students surprise me all the time with their unique abilities. I want to show you that you can be good at math and it might just require a change of perspective on the subject. Math can be fun and engaging and isnt just a bunch of recipes and instructions. I have lots of experience building fun and creative problems, puzzles and games for math contests and K12 math. I hope to share my passion for math with you!

As a middle school teacher, I had taught Algebra, Geometry, and other areas of mathematics. I also taught GED Math and SAT Math classes at a public college. All but one of my GED Math students passed the GED Math after completing an 8-week session (2 days/wk) and several of my SAT students had improved their SAT Math scores by as much as 200 points after completing a 6-week session (1 day/wk). I have given students tips on how to prep for tests, use TI calculators, and write perfect essays.
