I teach the Korean alphabet, conversation, reading, writing, idioms, and Korean culture. We can also have free and fun conversations about K-pop, dramas, or everyday life in Korea. In my classes, I use a variety of resources such as PDFs, MP3s, video clips, and textbooks. I give small homework assignments after each lesson and review tests after finishing every unit. If you’d like to improve your writing, I’ll encourage you to keep a short journal or write about interesting topics — then we’ll review and correct it together during class. I always encourage my students to speak Korean as much as possible, because speaking out loud is one of the best ways to learn a language! I enjoy maths because it becomes a puzzle you can solve logically, with surprising and beautiful patterns emerging from nothing. My tutoring style is concentrated on the idea that understanding must be built on understanding. To that end I make sure I listen to the students and find where they are confident, and where they need help. If they are struggling with a concept, I find that going back to where they do grasp the ideas and working up from there can have great effect. I also believe that memorizing equations and formulae is much easier if you are shown how they arise, so I try to include that before moving on to problems. I have been tutoring for 10 years, and won the Imperial College Excellence in the Support of Teaching and Learning Award in 2019. I have also attended workshops in the teaching of mathematics, on how to teach mathematics, especially algebra, to school aged students in a successful way. I am also able to provide tuition to support students in their university applications for mathematics by preparing them with transferable skills for the entrance exam process.
