Whilst studying for a Masters in Immunology, I undertook a 7 month research project titled ‘a proteomics approach in the analysis of a BCG induced trained phenotype of monocytes’, with the TB research group, National Heart and Lung Institute, St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College London. The project required me to use novel research methods to understand mechanisms by which BCG vaccination provides protection against unrelated infection such as respiratory syncytial virus and pneumonia as well as target disease Tuberculosis, for which it is shown to have varying efficacy.
